Maybe it is better to spread the wealth rather than just concentrate it at the complete top. It's not as if those people are contributing more to the production than those who are bussing the tables.

McDonalds in China is genuinely identical to McDonalds anywhere else in the world. Some people put their own trays away, some don't, someone is always going to be employed to deal with the latter.

However, I do think there's an interesting discussion to have on China's employment tactics, for example how huge numbers of especially older people fill low-wage jobs like street cleaning or security guarding, on a probably unnecessary scale, to ensure full-employment.

It's wild how someone could possibly misinterpret McDonalds playing at being a real restaurant with waitstaff in some countries where it can pretend to be a fancy foreign luxury brand instead of the absolute worst, bottom of the barrel fast food you can possibly find that it is in the US, as instead being a make-work program like some US states do with gas stations needing to have dedicated gas pumpers on the payroll.
