boring real newsThey say the peso and lira were too unstable and prices were being changed too often, so Valve just told devs to start setting prices in USD at "regionally appropriate" rates. I am not aware of Gaben's opinions on Argentinian politics, thankfully

Scarecrow Voice: I told you the dollar would stabilize prices, I never said they were prices you could afford.

Ruble, Hyrvnia and the Rupee are back on top for having cheapest games

Valve's regional pricing is now even more nonsensical than before and encourages piracy

It puts the lie to the idea that capitalism seeks the lowest prices - this whole system wouldn't exist if not for the fact that Valve and game devs are actually seeking out the highest price each market will bear.

Regions are literally the opposite of "Free" markets, and is proof that economists are the mouthpieces of capitalists.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 1 points 11 months ago

It's because capitalism seeks the highest profits.

Rupee prices went up too recently but in most cases it's cheaper than the American prices.

so that was a fucking lie, seeing as how his very own platform backpedaled from it

The most effective antipiracy measure has to be how easy steam workshop is no?

It is also kinda garbage, the entry is easier, but as a user there are no tools for anything. No version history, no way to find the download folder. Nothing.

I don't disagree, I just am a total airhead about any beyond basic computer functions and what my brother has forced me to learn lol. From an amateur perspective, regardless of the features you mentioned, people like me are trapped in an environment of ease and don't learn to mod by fadangaling with the game files amymore.

[–] Alunyanners@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 11 months ago

idk, i don't use steam workshop very much

They targeted gamers.

Gamers.

Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.

It's 2023 and we STILL send death threats to Anita Sarkeesian. We are persistence incarnate.

Gabe’s a libertarian, but he also probably realizes that libertarianism is a stupid government ideology and only benefits the individual and wants to take advantage before the eventual downfall

...what would that make him then?

this resolves a major internal conflict for me. i always bought games to support the developers and always drm free, from gog or humblebundle or itch.io. the thing is games were a lot cheaper on steam, so i always had a second thought to buy them on steam, to save some money. i never did but thanks to this decision i will never even consider that anymore.
