Thrustmaster(lol) T150. It's pretty fuckin rad, i only used a controller to play racing games before this but this is so much cooler.

I bought one to play American Truck Simulator because I support workers.

I’d be first against the wall with my bourgeois setup.

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 4 points 7 months ago

full cockpit with 3 monitors or something? that is the dream but i dunno if ill get that far.

[-] red_stapler@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I have a full aluminum profile cockpit of my own design but I use a quest 3 instead of monitors.

Make sure your aim is true or the aluminum profile will deflect the bullets. And don’t lenin-palace at my collection of steering wheels too much.

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

The steering wheels will be collectivised in a publicly run gaming cafe where we will hold a racing sim tournament in the most balanced way possible: Everyone gets a lada.

(A worker owned communist gaming cafe would actually unironically be rad as fuck)

There are Lada mods for Assetto Corsa, we were talking about doing some races in the racing game thread.

[-] red_stapler@hexbear.net 3 points 7 months ago

How do I not know where to find the racing game thread? partiotism

It's already a month old at this point. https://hexbear.net/post/1780617

I'll have to join you unfortunately, I may not have a fancy wheel, but I'm in the 40+ pieces of content club on iRacing.

[-] trabpukcip@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago

Been thinking of doing exactly this but haven't bit the bullet yet. There's always a good deal on a used setup on craigslist, but then I fantasize about buying a bigger and bigger kit until I realize I'd be spending way more than just a starter

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

yea id been wanting to spend as little as possible too. someone on ebay was selling this wheel for like $100 shipped, but it was untested, but it had a return policy so i took a shot and got lucky. it feels more natural than a controller, especially for a carbrained american. hitting the gas and brake at the same time is more natural now. i pretty much only like rally and arcade style(like Burnout) racing games but maybe ill emulate gran turismo or something.

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 4 points 7 months ago

Gran Turismo, make a drift car or grab one of the prebuilt ones and have fun recording sick drifts

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 2 points 7 months ago

i dunno what it is about drifting but if it's not part of the racing i care much less. I tried some F1 games once and being like "sick corner" is meh to me.

That's why I love Initial D and loved Auto Modellista.

One of the most memorable gaming experiences of my life was an extremely intense race at the arcade with some random dude on the Initial D 4 machines that ended with us sharing a very sweaty bro hug.

[-] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 3 points 7 months ago

Burnout 3 or burnout 4 as the goat? I lean 3 because of the radio, but 4 had better mechanics (shunt takedowns ftw)

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 3 points 7 months ago

Burnout 3 is definitely the first great burnout game. Those first two felt like PSOne games. But I love 3, Revenge and Paradise. 4 did add some cool things though so I would say that probably is the best since it really expanded on 3. Paradise is great too, but it's mostly the same stuff just open world.

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 1 points 7 months ago

Might be a hot take, but I didn't think anything added in the sequels after 3 improved the game.

Not that Revenge is a bad game, but 3 is just much better and for some reason they made it much harder to take down opponents in road rage.

Paradise is a bad game.

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 1 points 7 months ago

The jump from 2 to 3 was big, and the jumps between the rest of them weren't as big. How was Paradise bad though? I know on PC its kind of a shit show because it seems to not work on Steam or something, but on Xbox 360 it was great and it was well reviewed.

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

They made it open world for no reason other than it was the style at the time, and it adds nothing of value to the game. In the first version, which I originally played, you couldn't even restart an event, you had to drive all the way back to where the start is, which tells you how much they put thought into designing the open world.

The one thing the open world brings to the game is having to choose which route to take, which absolutely sucks ass because it's not fun and if you miss one turn, you might as well restart (in the original version, have fun driving all the way back). Crash mode was also removed in favor of the bouncing car thing, which is boring and way too easy. I will give them credit for making takedowns in road rage much easier than Revenge and de facto removing traffic checking, but that's about it.

One decent wheel costs half the price I paid for my shitty 30 year old car a few years ago in my country what-the-hell

[-] vivamatapacos@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago

I recently rebuilt my PC. Now I want to pull out my racing wheel and play Dirt Rally. Its the most immersive experience I've ever had in gaming.

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago

it's sad the peak rally racing game is pretty fuckin old. ive heard the newer ones don't compare.

[-] TrudeauCastroson@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

People still play and mod Richard Burns Rally from like 2003.

I've never driven a rally car so idk if the physics are actually much better/realistic, but graphics don't deter me because I still play cruisin USA every time I see an arcade machine for it.

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 2 points 7 months ago

i have heard thats the most realistic one, ill have to try it out finally.

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 2 points 7 months ago

You can download an installer at https://rallysimfans.hu/rbr/index.php with the game itself, fanmade patches and dozens of gigs of cars and stages.

[-] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

force feedback wheels are rad dude

highy recommend also trying it with beam.ng

soft body physics simulator focused on cars and crashing them.

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago

Hell yeah I have a saitek x52 pro and can relate. Playing flight sims with throttle and stick is so fuckin rad.

My friend used to have a force feedback racing wheel with pedals and that was rad as fuck.

[-] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago

Hell yeah, flight sticks are great. I especially like when they have compatibility in non-flight games, like Battlezone or MechWarrior.

if youre sincere, thanks! if this is sarcasm, you a ho.

I'm not mocking your improvement to your gaming setup. It's good.
