sorry that post wasn't very nice hope the game turns out well and you have fun with it <3
That second one strongly reminds me of this Beksinski work
I love Bekinski. I made a pinterest account just so I could find similar art.
If I were Bioware I would be ashamed to release a new game that isn't at least half as good as Baldur's Gate 3.
All of those have a distinct “concept art appearance”. Sauce on them being in-game?
So its "in engine footage." Meaning it was taken with something like the photo mode that some games have. https://x.com/dragonage/status/1799952008893616558/photo/1
edit: plus look closely at the foliage in the first photo. Its clearly 3d.
That’s what I expected. In engine is a typical trick to build hype while avoiding the culpability of the already limited in scope advertising laws. It won’t represent in-game at all, even at the ripe end of machines.
Well they are releasing gameplay footage tuesday morning. So the extra hype they generate from doctored screenshots will be pretty minimal.
But, the important part of those screenshots for me were the art direction. People online are upset over the tone and cartoony aesthetic. These screenshots show that there are going to be plenty of darker, moodier set pieces.
The trailer is also "in engine footage" and doesn't look like this.
I have very little hope for this actually being any good. Studios are made of people that make games and the people that were around to make the previous titles really aren't around any more. The spotlight of Inquisition for me was the excellent weaving of previous world building into the current plot in a way that felt organic and exciting. Now after going through the nightmare of Anthem and then clearly some development hell with this game I have to wonder how many people ended up sticking around and how that will reflect on the final product.
The stories I've read on how Arkane lost a lot of talent often line up with how Bioware has gone. Making a game in a genre the team wasn't interested in with an overall goal to just make more money jumping in on a live service which led to major staff departures means that even should they try again, the studio isn't made of the same people anymore and that expecting another great game is shaky at best and should be approached with at least some realism.
I want it to be good because I've enjoyed the series but it's been 9 years since the last game and the people that made that game good did it despite everything. When they put out cinematic trailers and in-engine screenshots not even 6 months before the announced release, I'm left wondering why they can't show actual stuff from the game. They should be done with the most major systems by now, environments should be made. I've seen this song and dance one too many times in the games industry and until I see people actually playing it I'll temper my expectations.
I share all of your concerns. However, I have read a lot of things that have made me pretty hyped for the game. Unfortunately I have heard that this is the quippiest dragon age game so far. But that the art direction and plot tone are otherwise good.
Also, there is a 20 minute gameplay reveal tomorrow.
here is a 20 second clip they release today: https://x.com/dragonage/status/1800196133517660204
The trailer was really really stupid though and as someone who hadn't played the others, it left me completely uninterested in whatever quippy marvel bullshit game they were trying to sell.
I hear some of the games are pretty good, and I watched some good trailers for earlier entries in the series afterwards, but this one was a flop.
The first game and DLCs was really cool. Had some weaknesses, but overall a really fun game. Everything after started off bad and it got worse with every sequel.
I absolutely adore every game in the trilogy. They are all quite different, but I love them all the same. I talk at length about the strengths and weakness of each game, as well as how to get the most out of inquisition in this thread:
if you like rpgs, the first is a great game.
are we still playing the inquisitor (minus one arm) or not?
No, the new protagonist is called "Rook." Every dragon age game has a new companion. However, it has been revealed that the inquisitor will be making an appearance in this game. You start out Veilguard by doing character customization for your inquisitor and making a few key decisions.
