"But muh family and fwiends use it!" or "I have an autistic cousin twice removed so I can't stop because it's the only thing he'll use!"
Any excuse to keep huffing that copium.

Thin-skinned Nazis don't like being called Nazis for liking other Nazi content.
A few weeks ago, X’s director of engineering, Haofei Wang, said the upcoming change is meant to protect users’ public image — because “many people feel discouraged” to like “edgy” content.
That's the fucking point, Wang. Nazis should be discouraged from liking other Nazi content. Society shouldn't tolerate bigots, much less embolden them- the way you and your boss want to do.
This seems like an odd medium to make that complaint in; while technically lemmy exposes upvotes to other instances, so it's not really private, the client doesn't, by default, permit upvotes to be seen.
Kbin/mbin does expose upvotes; here's the upvotes on this post, for example:
Just another step toward making used-to-be-Twitter a safe space for cowardly fascists.
can’t have conservative snowflakes getting triggered
In all seriousness, I sort of pity conservatives.
They're sort of like the one kid in kindergarten who could never manage to figure out which plastic peg went in which hole and would just get frustrated and throw things. Except that they never grew out of it. Here they are, twenty or thirty or sixty years later, still unable to grasp the simple fact that the world just is what it is and the round peg isn't going to go in the square hole no matter how much you pound on it, and still angry over it, as if it's some sort of vast conspiracy rather than just the fact that they're fucking morons.
That has to be an unpleasant way to live.
Of course, they're such vile and loathsome and destructive assholes that my pity is short-lived, but still...
would just get frustrated and throw things.
Yeah. Most conservatives I know have short tempers and they get extremely carried away when they are in groups. I mean, it doesn't matter what they are getting mad at, just as long as everyone is getting pissed off at the same time and about someone else or some other ideology. The key point is they believe they are victims of "the system" or "libruls" and not their own bad choices.
It's very similar to how Putin is constantly crying about how Russia is a victim of NATO aggression, actually.
Just tell a person that their way of life is being attacked and that you have all the solutions.(Simplified Hermann Goering quote. Allegedly.)
This is one of the more eloquent definitions I've seen of conservatives. It's exactly how I see them operate.
The fucked up thing is that a lot of the younger ones I've seen recently have that knowledge that their destructive worldviews are messed up, but continue with it out of trauma or some kind of sadism.
I'd guess that many of the older ones have doubled down on that so many times, they can't remember it ever being a decision or up for internal debate. So, they just keep digging their hateful holes in the sand, ready to plunge their heads in any time they hear something that upsets their delicate, irrational, fantasies.
Elon Musk trying to be “edgy” and just coming off like the most divorced man on Earth is pretty funny. I’m still not using Vichy Twitter but it is funny watching a grown ass, 52 year-old man try to be an edgelord.
I think vichy twitter is the best nickname ive heard so far
I don't get it
When Nazi Germany occupied France, it was known as Vichy France.

"We've listened to our users who've voice concerns about being labeled 'racist piece of shit' merely for supporting tweets that suggest that other races are less human than white people. Today we're doubling down on our own brand of 'freedom of speech' to mean 'freedom from consequences'. From today forward, twitter users will be safe and comfortable voicing their (anonymous) support for the most disgusting racist, homophobic, or misogynistic tweets imaginable." -Twitter PR probably
No no no. It's not like that! Twitter doesn't have a PR team. They were fired 2 years ago. Along with tech support. Plus twitter doesn't exist. Only X which continues to bring the worst ideas forward to make the world full of shit.
"💩" - Twitter actually, when requested to comment
Pays $40 billion to allow people to be shadow toxic. What an amazing innovator in our midsts. We're all just so jealous we wish we could be so genius ...
Fucking moron.
it would have been so much cheaper to just start the xchan imageboard from scratch instead taking 4 years turning twitter into it
His reasoning for wanting to do this is so bad and clearly a racist dog whistle; everyone should be able to like things that they would be ashamed to like publicly with their name attached!
First they came for the ratios, but I did not speak up because I was not cringe

Oh my god, he's trying to make it Reddit.
ex, lol
Xwitter has become a master class in autocracy, how one guy with power and a fragile ego can bring an entire empire to ruin.
Here in the states with Project 2025 burning bright in the future promised by the Republican Party, we should be watching this closely.
Every time I think wtf is he doing, I remember about this theory he is destroying twitter on purpose, because it was a network with to much influence for example the arab spring.
Every time I hear somebody mention that theory I remember that most people believe Elon isn't a massive moron
They just don't want the world to see how little people like them now
Nobody cares anymore.
Might have been a bad idea to just let the bots run rampant on his platform.
So, first you organize posts by like count for signed out users, and now you're hiding the like count altogether? Now how are you gonna organize posts now?
The funny thing is, it's not actually hidden if you know how to see them. Just throw "/likes" after a profile. They only hid the fucking button.
They should also remove the letters T, W, I, E, and R just so no trace of Twitter remains.
Hey Elon, wouldn't it be better for us all to not only show the likes but show the dislikes too? Even on your account.
Something something "free speech "
Wasn't the first indication of JK Rowling being a TERF a Tweet she liked?
She said she regrets not having publicized her opinions on this subject earlier, so if her likes wouldn't have exposed her, her subsequent retweets certainly would.
Elon mad he got ratiod recently or something?
You can still see who liked your post.
So someone just needs to make an account that says edgy things, then screen shot the list.
How about "X is about to start sending everyone to Mastodon".
Elon Musk, the nobody with too much money... for now! [he will still be a nobody though]
