Is this normal?

It honestly sounds like a hemorrhoid. Try the preparation h cream, and if that doesn't work the suppositories. If it's hemorrhoids that should help with only a dose.

Long term, you should try to reduce the amount of red meats and other fatty meat. Add more fiber to your diet. Beans and other things like brown rice and lentils.

If you are not ready for that kind of adjustment, fiber powders can help to supplement the fiber in your diet.

Also, I'm not a doctor. If you continue to experience these problems please talk to your doctor.

Thanks. I definitely have hemorrhoids. A lot of the time my asshole is bloody and itchy. It sucks.

[-] NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

A lot of the time my asshole is bloody

Then it is too late for the good advice from that comment above. You are at a later stage. You need a doctor ASAP.

[-] BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

go to the doctor.

[-] NotSpez@lemm.ee 25 points 1 year ago

My brother/sister/non-binary sibling in Christ!

Asking the Internet for medical advice is never, I repeat: never a good option. The best advice possible that you can get here is go see a doctor. I say that, because there is no way anyone here can do a proper assessment of your situation, so that is the only safe advice. of course, statistically speaking, it’s not likely to be something that will kill you, but we simply cannot tell from here.

My advice: don’t be alarmed too much by all the horror stories you can find, but take it seriously enough to let a qualified health professional take a look at it.

Bright red blood? Probably not a problem but talk to your doctor if it's persistent

Dark red to black? More serious, anywhere from get-to-the-ER-now to make an appointment asap.

[-] PrincessTardigrade@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

This is the best answer I've seen. Basically the color tells you where the bleed is occurring. On/near the surface will be bright red and indicate likely fissures or hemorrhoids, while dark red to black color indicates a bleed further up the digestive tract which can be something much more serious.

Apparently doctors get asked this A LOT and a little red blood when you wipe is very normal. However, best thing to do is talk to your doctor to be on the safe side

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 15 points 1 year ago

No its not normal.

[-] Chef_Boyargee@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Going off of your username, probably not. But for real life, and iirc, if it’s red blood, it’s less problematic and if it’s black/dark (from being digested) it’s likely more of an issue. Regardless, this is one for legit doctors.

[-] yukichigai@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago

Yes I've had that. No it's not normal. Best case it's an anal fissure, i.e. a tear in your butthole. If it's a regular thing that means either it's not healing or it's tearing repeatedly. In both cases you need to talk to a doctor and figure out what's going on.

More likely is hemorrhoids. Also you need to talk to a doctor about that. Even if they seem fine, chances are they're subtly and infrequently making your life far more miserable than it needs to be.

It could also be several other things, diseases, damage, etc. In all cases you need to talk to your doctor to figure out what it is.

[-] ji88aja88a@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

I've been told by a gastroenterologist that ANY blood in stool is bad. There should be none. Ever. Go see a doctor

[-] mister_monster@monero.town 11 points 1 year ago

Depends what causes it. Red blood is usually from hemorrhoids, which 1/4th of all people have. So in a sense it's normal, as in common, but you should still get it resolved if you can

[-] Golfnbrew@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

This is how my wife found out she had colon cancer. Go to a doctor NOW!

[-] solidgrue@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Ear more fiber. See your doctor. Consider a colonoscopy?

[-] baruchin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No, not normal at all. Being a patient with UC I can tell you that if blood is bright red, it means it comes from either the colon, rectum, or anus being the latter possibly due to hemorrhoids. If stool is very dark, like almost black, the bleeding is most likely from the upper digestive system being the stomach or esophagus possibly the culprits.

Either way, I strongly suggest you go to a doctor and check what's going on. Blood on stools is something serious that needs attention immediately.

[-] OptimusPhillip@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Not normal. See a doctor, at the very least get the serious problems ruled out.

[-] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I had that. Went to the doc who booked my to get some internal hemorrhoids banded. Haven't had a problem since

[-] squiblet@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Like if you vomit and there's blood, there's a big difference between dark, dried blood, and fresh red blood. But anyway, this can vary vastly in severity, from simply rectal tears near the surface, to Chrohn's disease or tumors. You may wish to read this page (scroll to lower GI in particular) and it would be good to ask a medical professional and not just Lemmy.

[-] Nemo@midwest.social 7 points 1 year ago

Nope. Only when I wipe. Fucking haemorrhoids.

If there is blood in your urine or stool, then you should definitely see your doctor. Blood in urine indicates something is wrong in or around your kidneys and blood in the stool indicates there is a tear or something wrong somewhere in your GI tract.

Friend had this and he was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.

[-] Mowcherie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I agree completely with the emphatic comments about not asking for medical advice on the internet.

As an aside... some of you big guys are wearing your belts really tight and strangling your assholes into hemrroids to desperately keep your pants up. Consider switching to suspenders for the love of God. It can make a huge difference in the health of you asshole vasculature, stop the itching and bleeding after a few months. You can wear the suspenders under your shirt it you don't like the style.

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Probably not. If you just had hemorrhoids of doom or had to wipe your ass raw, then you might get blood for a day or two, but otherwise go see a doctor. Pooping blood is a huge medical red flag - no pun intended.

[-] intensely_human@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

No this is not normal you need to get medical help for this.

I have never seen blood in my poop.

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 1 year ago

Only when I pop a hemorrhoid.

[-] gmtom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Are you on any medication? I used to bleed everything I pooped when I was on a certain antidepressant, made multiple doctors visits where they tried a few different things. But then when I stopped taking the antidepressants it went away pretty quickly.

[-] semperverus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

No.

Go to your doctor.

[-] Generic_Handel@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

If you are over 50 it could be diverticulitis, not serious but see a doctor to confirm.
If you are under 50 see a doctor.
So see a doctor either way.

[-] Ab_intra@discuss.online 2 points 1 year ago

Go to your doc..

[-] deadcatbounce@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

Sometimes you can tear your tract, I don't mean with sex etc., but with forcing a large stool etc.

You should go to the doctor and get it checked out. It's embarrassing but:

Sometimes it's a sign of bowel cancer.

[-] Maxcoffee@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Go to the doc and get checked out. It could be anything from cancer to an anal fissure.

Even if it's not life threatening it will slowly get worse and the surgery to fix it if it does is one of the most painful experiences you can have. Better to address a hemorrhoid or fissure now using the various creams you can apply yourself rather than that.

[-] banana_meccanica@feddit.it 1 points 1 year ago

It about your diet that makes your asshole burn and grows hemorrhoids. When you poop they break and you bleed. Eat more vegetables, fish and proteins. Less sugar and carbohydrates, no fastfood, drink only water.

[-] redballooon@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

This is a remote internet diagnosis without looking at any symptoms.

[-] banana_meccanica@feddit.it -3 points 1 year ago

Doctors do the same and even asking moneys for that. Or do you think that your doctor gladly will take a look at your asshole without hesitation? It's all about careless hipotesis till you die on pain or you are ready to burn cash.

[-] redballooon@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I have no idea where you get the idea that doctors do diagnosis without examination. I work in the medical field and have contact with many doctors, and no one is as careless as you suggest. Quite the contrary, actually.

In other words this is just blatantly wrong.

[-] NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Doctors do the same

Doctors do remote internet diagnosis without looking at any symptoms??
