For a supposed genius, I do get the impression this oligarch keeps taking many corrective measures for his own actions.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 80 points 3 months ago (1 children)

To be fair, very smart people can say very dumb things outside their areas of expertise.

Also to be fair, Musk isn't one of those people.

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (9 children)

What area of expertise does he have?

I have not seen a single indication of genius by Musk. I see a spoiled trust fund man-child in the right place at the right time and who frequently pays other people to come up for ideas for him. I can literally think of dozens of people I've known over the years who are far more intelligent and would do much more with his starter funds from daddy.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I've been in meetings with him when he was still active at SpaceX and before he truly dove off the deep end. I had direct conversations with him telling him his engineers were wrong about something. He was quite intelligent and knew his shit. He was arrogant and a dick, but it was obvious he knew a LOT about the rockets he was building. He wasn't doing the engineering, but he definitely understood the work going on.

Now, though, the dude is a fucking lunatic. I don't know if he just started taking too many drugs or if the billions of dollars made something break in his mind or what, but he was not like this back then.

I am sure I am not the only one who thinks a large amount of his success stems from Peter Thiel wanting to fuck him. And possibly actually fucking him.

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 14 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Musk came in as "the money guy" to PayPal before Theil was rich. It's why he was CEO for 6 months, but everyone hated him as a leader so much they fired him.

They all got really, really rich together, and the Elon risked it all on Tesla and survived via government handouts for a decade.

Easy to take big risks when you know you can pop back to dads emerald mine for a fill up at any point.

[–] doughless@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

For someone who likes to think of himself as a modern Nikola Tesla, he acts much more like Edison.

I work with rich ego maniacs like him. Mistakes that he does means nothing to his ego. Mistakes that others make are personal attacks.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 84 points 3 months ago (3 children)

It’s unknown why exactly Musk chose to delete the tweet but it may have had something to do with the discovery that Cooper has a habit of siding with Adolf Hitler on a number of issues.

That doesn't sound plausible, Musk frequently sides with Hitler too, so why should that be a problem?

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Musk also sides with Russia and money.

Everyone who has an account on that shitty site should post this screenshot and @ him.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 44 points 3 months ago

Only if you make it clear that the guy is at the very least a Nazi sympathizer. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who would assume you were being pro Musk and pro Carlson if you just posted the image without explanation.

Plus you're just giving the site activity. Deleting your account would be a much better statement.

“Trying to understand WWII” is forbidden apparently.

I guess that would make me respect my history teach more for getting me to understand WWII

Historians, the biggest rebels.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Every other documentary out there is about WWII because there is a vast amount of public domain footage and a vast amount of documentation to draw from. I think we try to understand WWII more than anything else out there that ever happened just thanks to the media making endless cheap WWII documentaries.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Yeah, my first thought would be, "could you be more specific?" because there's so many facets to it.

IMO a good one to understand is "How did a major war against a collection of fascist states result in communism being considered the big enemy?"

[–] havocpants@lemm.ee 47 points 3 months ago (9 children)

Is Elon playing some clever 5D chess that I don't understand? Why is he doing things like this, how is it benefiting him? Has he lost his fucking mind?

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@lemmy.world 80 points 3 months ago (20 children)

He really went off the deep end when Grimes dumped him. I'm not saying he didn't have issues before, but his compete public persona changed when their relationship ended. When his relationship with Amber Herd ended her did an interview with Rolling Stone where he was crying and talking about how life just isn't worth doing anything of you aren't in love. I think he really thought that with Grimes he found his true soulmate. My guess is that once she became a mother she realized that he isn't someone she wants raising her children and she broke his heart and he's gone full incel now.

One day she will be free of him and she's going to tell her story. I can't wait to hear it.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 33 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I don't know if it coincides with grimes, but his daughter disowning him and him blaming the woke school system for turning her against him is also where the anti work crusade started, which don't ya know, brings you down the far right rabbit hole into psycho land.

Edit: whatever his views were before this event, that was a defining moment where he had to make a real choice, and he made the wrong one.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

He faced a lot of abandonment in a short time period and instead of self reflecting lashed out. And when an angry white man lashes out against other people for self preserving, there’s a chunk of the internet there to help guide him away from ever getting better

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago

To add insult to injury (in his mind), Grimes dated a trans person after dumping him.

[–] WoahWoah@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Remember those creepy, desperate Tweets from Grimes to Musk about seeing the kids or whatever? God. Imagine literally the richest person in the world is also your incel ex.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Nope!

Sounds awful though.

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

His villain origin story is because of a broken heart. A tale as old as time.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

It's more likely that when she had his children, Elon felt like he had total control over her and could ramp up his abuse of her. This is a classic maneuver by abusive men. Marriage and moving in together also tend to cause them to lash out, but having a baby usually really does it for them because the woman is often physically weakened by it. This includes raping the woman after she gave birth and isn't healed.

Once the abuse escalates, the woman is able to realize he wasn't going to change and that he'd get worse. She is able to realize it's too much. Someone like Grimes with money and power can escape more easily once they realize this.

So yeah it's less to do with Grimes becoming a mother and realizing he wasn't good enough (implying his behavior has been steady/the same), and more like him trapping her and taking off his mask.

Men like Elon - narcissistic and obsessed with women, especially trans women - have a compulsion to control women like dolls.

No. He's stupid. Never had a functioning mind, he's been substituting money for one all along.

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 17 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Hes a shitty racist that is extremely high at all times.

Imagine your meth'ed out rural cousins, but 200 million people/bots follow them on twitter for some reason.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Everyone replying to you is saying he is essentially a troll but imo it’s him affirming a narrative that benefits him.

He was born rich and then became a billionaire (and still would claim being self made). He truly believes some people are born better. That’s actually a core tenant of conservative ideology and the justification for social hierarchy that they support.

When you believe some people are born better, and that the market decides who has what it takes, then minorities over represented in poverty must mean that some races are born better/worse.

It’s basically social Darwinism and it benefits him if people believe that rich and successful people are better and thereby should be rewarded with more power. That is the benefit, the racism just part of the package deal.

He's a 4-chan troll that gained enough wealth from his parents that he can now actually believe and preach the things he used to read on those forums and not only barely see consequence, but actually ignite passions and movements in the world's most ignorant and mentally challenged chuds.

We have to stop wondering what his "plans" are because he has none, he is just a stupid man, like so many others, and yet commands legions of devoted followers because our species is fucking stupid.

He's just a Nazi with a shitposting addiction and he fired his PR team so they can't hide it anymore.

[–] chetradley@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

He's pandering to his right wing sycophants and pushing the boundaries of free speech on his platform so that when he inevitably faces consequences, he can immediately play the victim and say "see, I told you this is what the left would do!"

Normally I'd say don't give him the attention, but he's a Nazi sympathizer, and those motherfuckers deserve condemnation.

"Elon musk deleted" or "the last standing PR guy for Elon musk persuaded him to delete"?

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

We should probably just wait a few hours, maybe that person is about to get fired for going against musks free speech absolutism and the tweet gets restored

Believing that someone like Elon Musk, that is probably counseled by some of the best minds of the Earth (even if they're turned the wrong direction), is doing this out of stupidity isn't good. This is politically and economically fueled.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

The problem is that “someone like Elon Musk” is a billionaire insulated from virtually every bad decision he could ever make, therefore he doesn’t need any counsel other than “this lawsuit could cost you money if you do (thing).

He’s almost worth $200Bn, and even is someone sued and won for half his entire worth, he’d still have more money and power than 99.999% of the rest of the entire planet.

He is exactly the someone he wants to be, he can be as stupid as he wants as long as he doesn’t think his actual worth or power is truly threatened.
