My family and I watched the entirety of the franchise in order during COVID lockdown. Every Friday, we'd drink heavily and do a peanut gallery commentary. We also listened to the Kill James Bond podcast along with it. Good times, and the only thing that can make most of those movies watchable. It really is an insufferably gross and shitty franchise. There's a couple bangers, and some incredible lines in there though.

That sounds like it would have been a lot of fun to do.

So I know you didn't mean anything by the use of the term peanut gallery but I just wanted to give you a heads up that the phrase has racist origins, because of course it does!

This is not a struggle session. This is one of those "Goddamn it, why didn't anyone tell me this before?" moments. And it's gonna be worse when I tell you I'm not even American and that I've never stepped foot in the US. Death to America etc. etc.

Fuuuuuuuuuck!! We can't have shit because of racists!!! It's rather fitting for a lot of the bond films though, some of the most racist stuff gets played off so casually.

How about we call it the shoe gallery? headshot

I personally just say "cheap seats." Has a good flow to it.

I'm in favour of calling it the Statler and Waldorf gallery

But I suppose that's a bit dated.

In the famous words of Bob Katter: "Let there be a thousand blossoms bloom!"

Muppets are never dated!!

Now that we have learned of a racist origin for a phrase, we gotta nuke the site

I got it into my head a while that I'd watch all of them and so I've been steadily going through them, ngl i actually really got into the first five Sean Connery ones but its been a rocky ride since then.

The original Connery ones were pretty solid and classic cinema... Except for the sex pest/assault parts. Non-Moore ones get more entertaining at least, I think it was really poor directing and writing tbh.

I have watched many bond movies as they were usually on while I got my Christmas family torment and I don't remember shit all of any of them other than this one clip

Pretty decent family torture day background noise though as its pretty easy to disassociate to.

The games on the other hand chefs-kiss

The Roger Moore James Bond movies are all kind of mid if you're expecting an action movie

They're more like live-action cartoons really

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

Not a fan, but there are better and worse ones, and Moonraker is down there with the worst of them. Goldeneye was the last one with anything going for it imo.

I've never enjoyed the James Bond movies and have always specifically found them boring. And no, it's not even that I can't enjoy "problematic content" or stuff that's basically enemy propaganda, I just think they're really fucking lame when I watch them.

[–] Bobson_Dugnutt@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The real enjoyment comes from listening to the Kill James Bond episode afterwards

[–] ComradeMonotreme@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Listening to the episode remembering having watched the films as a kid. Watching the film again. Then listening to the episode again.

I watched that a few months ago. Here are the notes I made for myself...

Too stupid and too long. I need to avoid Bond movies with Roger Moore.

Isn't Dr. Gorka in that one?
