Obvs you know the situation better than me, but one might say that carrying on like that is even dishonest/unfair to both parties. Yeah I second this — I have Linux Mint on the family computer and the non-techies get on just fine with it. The Cinnamon desktop environment is basically a modern remake of Windows XP.
