Celebrate the art, music, history, architecture, and glory of the Soviet Union.

founded 1 year ago
MODERATORS

It was established in 1922 as a union of four socialist republics created after the 1917 October Revolution, namely the Russian SFSR, the Transcaucasian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR and Byelorussian SSR. The years that followed saw the addition of the Uzbek and Tajik SSRs; the Transcaucasian SFSR was dissolved in 1936 in favor of the elevated SSRs of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. From 1956 to 1991, the union comprised 15 member republics, two of which had their own member seats at the United Nations.

The USSR represented a groundbreaking political alternative for the working class as the first stable socialist state in history. This was remarkable especially in a time period where workers in the Western world were still struggling for basic union rights; the 1924 Soviet Constitution and the 1936 Soviet Constitution represented some of the most progressive political advancements in history.

The Soviet Union developed under extreme pressure from capitalist states and global imperialism; during the Russian Civil War, starting from 1918, it suffered successive invasions by Britain, France, the United States, Japan, Poland, and several other minor European powers. Some of these interventions temporarily succeeded in overthrowing local soviets and installing anti-communist puppet regimes, although they were ultimately unsuccessful in preventing the founding of the Soviet Union.

Barely two decades later, during World War II, the Nazi invasion represented the second imperialist war on the USSR, this time in the name of fascism. Although the fascists inflicted catastrophic damage on the western USSR and its population, the Red Army ultimately succeeded in repelling the Nazi forces and went on to play an integral role in the defeat of German Nazism in 1945.

Despite these difficulties, the Soviet Union achieved some of the most impressive economic developments in modern history. Socialism transformed a country of illiterate and starving peasants into an industrial superpower with one of the fastest growing economies on Earth. The Soviet people were one of the world's best-educated and healthiest populations, responsible for some of history's most impressive industrial and scientific achievements to date. And it provided a very influential model for other later socialist projects in places such as China, Cuba and Vietnam.

Starting from 1988, many SSRs seceded from the USSR before its illegal overthrow in 1991. Its past territory is now occupied by the successor states of Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Pridnestrovie, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Artsakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

After the revolution can i have the job where i just talk on the phone or go interact with people? Like in place of those comrades for whom such activities are difficult.

I enjoy talking to people and am very adept at navigating tedious social situations.

Are there people who do this now? I wouldn't want to do it under capitalism but i never considered it before

New year, same bullshit dealing with healthcare companies with my stroke victim mil. Now they want us to do a co-pay for every therapy visit. It’ll by like an extra 700 a month.

A pox of a thousand Luigi’s on these mfs

I have no great love for any US president, but you tankies having an orgasm at the thought of Carter dying is properly pathetic.

I think something that happens a lot is conflating being ugly and being bad. Like with fat people. Is obesity, fat rolls, and stretch marks attractive? No way. But does this mean it's a moral failing to be fat? Also no. Or trans people. So much shit I see from transphobes is just "ew, the transgenders look gross and ugly." I don't pass, and when I look in the mirror I feel disgust. They're 100% right about me looking like shit, but does that mean I, and people like me, shouldn't exist? Of course not. Or even just the fucking soyjak meme. It's just "you're ugly, therefore your opinion is wrong."

Version of Macbeth where instead of Macduff being born by c-section, he just wasn’t issued a valid birth certificate due to a clerical error.

Reading about a terrifying climate change fact, and immediately forgetting about it. Call that climate Bidenism.

Popular media exists Me: I can't like it now, that'll be just me following the bandwagon doomjak

Unpopular media exists Me: Me liking this thing shows I'm a free thinker and form my own opinions so-true

grillman: β€œZinn, why are you so lazy!?”

Meanwhile in reality….

Me: β€œHey bossman, can I have a job?”

Every business ever: β€œNo.”

Why do people forget you have to ask for permission to work somewhere before you can work? And why do people also forget that these businesses can say β€œno”?

I don't know what divine, otherworldly force keeps me from just completely breaking down, but I'm just so fucking tired. People just literally never want to communicate with me and I don't know what mask I have to put on to make it so that people see me as approachable anymore.

Just had some one from management come and tell me they've been getting emails that I had a backup of packages waiting for me in our mailroom. For a while now they're the ones who have handled this and I've gotten a few packages recently. But no one from the management team told me that they had been getting these emails for days. Just went and got them and the mailroom associates were clearly upset about it, although they did their best to stay professional about it. But I just don't get why it had to get to this point. I don't have a direct line of communication with the mailroom and I depend on the other management team to let me know these things. Its just too much for them to ask me, I guess. Fuck me.

The problem with modern day retellings of Dickens' A Christmas Carol is that they don't say what would realistically happen to Scrooge if he decided to turn a new leaf. Soon afterwards, the shareholders of his company would remove him from the company, and replace him with someone even worse.

I hate the right far, far more than I actually like anyone else. I can't even make eye contact with anyone for fear of having to deal with their potentially shit politics. The existence of Hitler Particles has destroyed my ability to connect to other human beings. I'm mostly in this for the grudge at this point

I refuse to believe anyone has ever watched a Mr beast video. It’s an elaborate meta prank to see if people would believe that Mr beast and his fandom exists (they don’t).

I've been getting exposed to a lot of facebook-style liberalism on twitter 2, and beyond the obvious takeaways of how masturbatory it is, and how eager it is to dismiss food prices as a dumb thing to worry about, a shocking amount of it just does not have a premise that makes any sense. "People laugh at children who believe in Santa, but there are adults who believe in Donald Trump", what are you even talking about, people don't laugh at children who believe in Santa??

Guys I cracked it, everyone was too focused on the red herring in 'Juicy' we've missed the evidence right in front of us!

In the 1995 song 'Keep Their Heads Ringin' ' Dr Dre raps;

More than a stealth bomber, I cause drama

The enforcer, music floats like a flying saucer

Or a 747 jet, never forget

Now none of the planes crashed on 9/11 were 747s, however a 747 was redirected to Whitehourse, Canada , I'm sure I don't need to explain the significance of 'Behold a (white)pale horse' specifically William Cooper's book that deals with conspiracy and the MiC, subjects also referenced in the first two lines I posted

And the state endorsed catchphrase to unite the country in the wake of national tragedy:

'Never forget'

as communists we need to do more to oppress comedians. they piss me off. ohh look at me getting up on stage telling a story for a long time with pauses so you know you can laugh. even the ones who are good politically annoy me. guess what, jokesters and japesters, we perfected comedy in 2019 by looking at a really hexagonal bear. stop trying to do comedy that doesn't involve bears

A party in which everyone brings one guacamole ingredient: a ripe avocado, a tomato, a garlic clove, a lime. As each person arrives, their ingredient is mashed into the guacamole as everyone else is enjoying the guacamole. The guacamole is then constantly replenished over the party.

I think those prepper's food bucket stuff are scams sold to prey on the hyper individualism/alienation of rightwingers, that being said I'm not opposed to storing food in a sealed bucket. Been thinking of making something like this with maybe oats, dried split peas, tvp, spices, and dried veggies. First I gotta make a small batch to see if it's worth the effort, something I can scoop and pour into hot water to cook. It'll be gruel basically but I'm fine with that especially on days when I can barely function like an adult.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If you can afford the storage and time to label and prepare food from dried, it's a huge cost saver. Bulk beans, rice, grains, pulses, seeds, nuts, flour, and so forth can last a long time and lower prices!

I love when recruiters give obviously self-contradicting advice for applying to jobs. "resumes are reviewed in under 30 seconds so make it eye catching" "check for spelling and grammar errors or your resume gets tossed" sorry, I do not believe you are doing a grammar check for a resume in under 30 seconds.

@barrbaric@hexbear.net first couple of time I tried it I failed pretty hard, I got on the job grind and got most of them 4 level 99 in different jobs each before attempting it again. Honestly not much structurally changes compared to the final millennium tower only thing that threw me off was final boss calling 3 of the former bosses for back up midway through the fight. I did feel satisfied afterward but honestly not much is gonna hold a candle to that and I'm not really one for new game+ since while I love the story I ain't getting through it twice.
