I can’t even imagine. I see so much misogyny on some lemmy comms.

Honestly, you sadly get used to it - along with, uh, degeneracy directed at you.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 42 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yep I get u. As a disabled person I eventually got used to the inevitable ableism on social media, lemmy is “better” than reddit or X, but it’s still shit.

I'm certain you didn't mean that they are, but the meme format kinda implies it, so I just thought I'd point out from here on that intersection that the two groups aren't mutually exclusive😊

(also shout out to fellow enby and or agender afabs lol)

Otherwise both this and op are sadly spot on.

The internet

Where men are men

Where women are men

Where kids are FBI

—1990s USEnet era adage

[–] NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee 11 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Yes, but weirdly, none of us play MMOs.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 months ago

You're not missing much

I know a few who play as male characters to avoid attention.

[–] atomicorange@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I would play as male characters and then dye their armor pink and flirt relentlessly with the boys. It was fun, especially when you’d get on teamspeak with them after playing together for weeks and they’d be like “wait you’re a girl?”

[–] NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee 6 points 2 months ago

Oh, I know. I've met a lot of women who do, it was more tongue-in-cheek at the old "Many Men Online Roleplaying Girls".

I know at least two who are in my coven / crew who play MMOs.

I don't like MMOs myself, but I'm way neurodivergent and do a lot of single-player and small-group co-op.

I think I steered away from pub games around the rise of gamergate and the alt-right. Folks got scary.

Horrible, but still not as bad as exploring it as a girl 🤢 I don't miss being a kid

[–] w3dd1e@lemm.ee 13 points 2 months ago

Yeah. I look back on all the grooming or inappropriate shit people said to me. I definitely didn’t understand at the time but that shit makes me so angry now. Wtf is wrong with people.

Can confirm. Went as Final Girl on Among Us and wow. Dudes got ~~viscous~~ vicious inside minutes.

[–] maccentric@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Yes, and corrected.

Though viscous seems applicable as well.

If an actual asshole manages to type anything at all on a keyboard, it should get to post whatever it typed.

  1. Get that shit rock hard, dehydrate, eat lots of meat
  2. Get in position above the key you want to press
  3. Let the turd slip out, just enough to press the key
  4. Slurp that shit back up
  5. Repeat.until.done.
[–] akariii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

i read this as saying that asholes with keyboards go explore the internet as women and that just sounds like the beginning of a trans comic/webtoon

[–] weeeeum@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What if we all pretended to be women because such harassment to a sufficiently wide audience would be extremely isolating

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 months ago

I believe you read this incorrectly.
