seen the film a few times but something I didn't notice before was that the ship they pilot is called the Rodger Young

Born in the small town of Tiffin, Ohio, in 1932, Young suffered a sports injury in high school that led to his becoming nearly deaf and blind. Despite this, he was able to pass the exams necessary to enter the Ohio National Guard. Soon after the United States entered World War II, Young's company was activated as part of the U.S. Army. Soon after his activation, in 1943, Young was killed on the island of New Georgia in Solomon Islands while helping his platoon withdraw from a Japanese ambush. For his actions, he was posthumously awarded the United States' highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.

so much of the movie is about the death drive

satire: not only dead, but dug back up and killed again for good measure

i think it's perfectly reasonable to criticise a govt that's continually going after the Communist Party which previously supported Chavez, tbh. they should rightfully be criticised for breaking the unity of the anti-imperialist camp in Venezuela by punching left. i don't listen to that podcast so maybe they're doing so in a lib, pro-imperialist way, though.

they reached that point when they upgraded all their railways to level 5 a decade ago

i hope there's no rule against this sort of thing - the CPB's vile reactionary line has been on the frontpage, and the comments had a bunch of people bemoaning the lack of a decent left org in the UK, so i thought it'd be worth mentioning that there is a worthwhile org out there (doubtless there are others too, but IMHO rs21 seem the best of the bunch IMHO!)

"rs21" stands for Revolutionary Socialism in the 21st Century. they're not a party per se, but several of their members have contributed to the "Party Question" series of articles published by Prometheus Mag in recent months, which is worth looking at if you don't follow Prometheus already.

the CPGB-PC (provisional committee) is actually pretty good theoretically although they are really small and don't do much. the CPB and CPGB-ML are the shitty ones.

also RS21 warrants a positive mention, they've been picking up steam gradually and have some really solid ideas, they're also the organisation who organised the central London trans rights demo today

nothing more than playing around with legislation to try and reverse the progress that has been made over recent decades. it will fail just as all other attempts have, even the Nazi regime could not manage it. we can't go back to a time when trans people didn't exist. there never has been one.
