This is what happened to me a couple years ago and I don't even live in the US. I ended up with a bad cavity and my dentist extracted the tooth. I found out not long after that the tooth could have easily been saved. Thankfully it's only one of my back teeth so no one even realises I'm missing one.

Not sure where you live, but if you don’t live in a swing state, you’re wasting your vote if you DON’T vote third party.

This is exactly what I don't understand about this claim lol. Why the fuck does it matter if someone from Minnesota or New York for example votes for a third party. The republicans haven't won MN or NY in decades.

Because if I blame the voters, then I don't have to admit that my country and its elections are a joke.

American boogeyman stories about China always remind me of this tweet

None. I'm pretty lax about blocking people and haven't yet encountered anyone worth blocking.

I haven't blocked any communities or instances since the instance I created my account on has defederated from lemmy.world and .ca. I've considered blocking sh.itjust.works but I've successfully avoided them so far.

Oh, we have found many ways to adapt to a world that frequently wants to harm us. I have, like, half a dozen trusted friends on speed dial just in case. I didn't mention this in the post but I was about to call one of them until he started calling after me first.

This is an absolutely terrible country that rivals America in terms of racism and sexism and I am looking to leave asap.

Thank you. It's genuinely horrible what people have to go through. I wish I could carry some kind of weapon but literally any form of self defence is illegal where I live, if I fight back then I am just as guilty. And then people wonder why crime rates against women are going up.

I'll be honest just talking about it and having people listen is more help than I could ask for, thank you.

I mentioned this in another comment but my country is horrible when it comes to stuff like this. Self defence isn't even legal. Welcome to Biscuit Island.

Nope, pepper spray is illegal where I live along with basically any other form of self defence.

I didn't, the family member is fairly old and kind of paranoid so I knew this would freak them out. As I said the person following me didn't see which house I went to and I'm not planning on doing these late night walks again (or even going out in the area alone again no matter the time really) so I seriously doubt anything else is going to happen.

This is more of a vent than anything but this happened last night and honestly I'm still pretty shaken up and mad over it.

I went out for a walk late last night (about 9:30-10pm) as I normally do when I have a lot on my mind. I was staying with a relative, they live in a decent-ish neighborhood and I have never experienced anything like this here before so it made it even more of a shock that this happened, plus I never go out within a five minute radius of the place of residence at this time of night for safety reasons.

I was walking around the area, was about ten minutes into the walk when I decided to sit on a bench for a breather. This car slowly drives by and approaches a parking space, but then exits it and just... stays right in front of me. I felt pretty uncomfortable and got up from the bench. Then the car started slowly following me.

I was practically shitting myself at that point and began walking faster, the car caught up with me and the driver rolled down the window and asked me if I was alright, saying I look lost, if I live in the area etc. I told him I was fine, that I live nearby. He asked me which house I lived in. I obviously refused to answer and just repeated that I lived nearby (again, a lie but I wasn't telling this creepy man anything about me). He told me that I was lying, that I don't live in the area, and I just repeated that I do and began to walk in the opposite direction. The car kept driving in the direction I was originally walking in and I thought that was it, but then he made a U-turn and continued to follow me.

After that I ran back to my relative's house and immediately locked the door behind. I don't think he saw which house I went into but I've been pretty shaken up since.

Why do creeps have to exist in the world.

Well, here it is!

A few days ago, I made a post appealing for information relating to animal product usage in the music instrument industry. Historically, musical instruments have used animal products. Typically, drumheads were made of animal skin, piano keys of ivory, and violin bows of horsehair. A lot of these processes have been phased out (most drums use Mylar for their skins now, and ivory was banned for pianos in the 80s.)

Here are some patterns I've noticed while creating this sheet:

  1. Drums and harmonicas are the "most vegan" instruments
  2. Acoustic pianos are much more likely to use wool than electric pianos
  3. The violin industry is the worst for animal products. Most violin manufacturers still use bows with horsehair.
  4. Manufacturers specialising in introductory/student products, such as Sigma and Franz Hoffmann, tend to use animal-derived materials rather than synthetic ones.
  5. Actual saxophones are vegan, but a lot of manufacturers use genuine leather straps. All companies that use leather for their straps have been labelled as orange. Trumpets, flugel horns, tubas, and trombones are seemingly okay regardless of manufacturer. Some flutes used to use ivory but again, this practice was banned in 1989.
  6. I discovered that clarinets tend to use goat skin for their pads. Unfortunately, I could not find any information on exactly which companies use animal skin for their clarinets. Sorry.

Another thing I've noticed is that information relating to this topic is EXTREMELY muddy. I would often find a source claiming that a manufacturer did not use animal products only to double check their information pages and see that they use wool. I would find sources claiming a manufacturer isn't vegan only to check their information pages and see that they seemingly use no animal products. For this reason, I cannot guarantee that the information in the spreadsheet is 100% accurate, but this is the closest to accuracy I have been able to get to.

This sheet compiles the top manufacturers in each category of instrument. If anyone has any other manufacturers they'd like me to investigate, please just say so in the comments.

Backstory: I am a vegan musician. I recently had a conversation with another user on here after I had mentioned musical instruments and how they have historically used animal products. A lot of manufacturers have now switched to all plant based components but it is very very unclear as to who exactly is vegan friendly or not.

I have decided to attempt to create a spreadsheet detailing which instrument manufacturers are vegan-friendly or not.

These are the ones I have found answers to:

Fender - Seemingly yes

Bedell - Yes

Martin - Not vegan, uses animal-derived glue

Taylor - Yes

Moondot - Yes

Fishman - Some models are definitely vegan, have not found a definitive answer for their entire range

Steinway - Yes

Baldwin - Yes

Ludwig - Seemingly yes

Evans - Yes

Remo - Yes

Gibson - Not sure, I have found something about them using oysters(what?) in their guitars but this is about 20 years old so not sure if anything has changed

Incredibow - Yes

Cardiff Violins - Yes

Franz Hoffmann - No

T Sonada - Yes

If anyone has any knowledge of other vegan/non-vegan manufacturers to add to the sheet, preferably with a source, please let me know. If you find that any of the info above is incorrect then again please let me know.
