The island nation of Cuba will now allow transgender people to change the gender markers on their government-issued identity cards without having to undergo “bottom surgery,” a legal change long sought by the country’s trans and nonbinary communities.

On July 18, the country’s National Assembly of People’s Power (NAPP) approved a law allowing people to change their gender markers without first requiring a court-approved document proving that applicants had undergone genital affirming surgeries.

This new law is one of several recently approved by the NAPP to update the technology and policies of the nation’s record-keeping system. Cuba’s new Civil Registry code will now recognize unmarried couples’ emotional unions or cohabitation agreements, providing some legal recognition of various domestic partnerships.

(Annapolis, Maryland) As the trump administration tries desperately to distract from the Epstein files, a new directive has come out to change all Navy vessels’ designation of USS - United States Ship - with the designation PTS, signifying the ship is controlled by president trump. Navy command is expected to begin the new designations at the start of the year.

When questioned at a golf outing in Scotland, trump defended the move. “Well I’m the commander, see… I’m the commander, and I command. These are my ships, because I’m commanding them, so they should say my name. They should, in facts maybe ‘trump’s ship’ is all we need, that will scare the pirates off.”

Washington insiders have trouble deciding if the new move is vanity, an attack on perceived lack of support from the Navy, or a distraction from the Epstein files.

The Department of Defense had no comment on the change.

I mean, look at it - it's a cat and a fish combined!! So rotund and soft!! Made on paper with pencils and black and shiny gel pens, it's so cute that I absolutely needed to do a quick drawing of it! As a Palestinian in Gaza, I can’t imagine a hopeful future, even if a ceasefire is announced soon. What lies ahead feels even more terrifying than what we’ve already endured, not only because of the vast destruction but because our genocide has become background noise to “peace talks.”

After 21 months of slaughter, in which more than 59,000 Palestinians have been killed, Arab governments appear to still be moving toward normalizing relations with Israel. It is hard to believe that Israel is being rewarded after ruining our lives, instead of being held accountable.

This feels like a betrayal.

The Łingít (Tlingít) Elder and subsistence yaaw (herring) fisherman recalled harvesting gáax’w (herring eggs) in his territories before Alaska became a state in 1959. It was a time when yaaw were plentiful and sightings of whales were rare — just a handful at most.

“There was food everywhere,” mused Yanshkawoo, tracing a slow circle in the air with his hand — a gesture toward the abundance the ocean once held. He sat at a crowded café in Sheet’ká (Sitka), his voice calm but thoughtful.

“They had no reason to come into the Sound back then.”

But things changed in 2019, when fishers, researchers and community members began noticing an influx of grey whales, an order of magnitude larger than in previous years.

Just as vast stretches of coastline transforms into a milky blue haze marking the annual yaaw spawn, suddenly, there were more than 150 grey whales sharing the same waters — and sustenance — as the Sheet’ká Ḵwáan (people of Sitka Tribe).

Every spring since time immemorial, Łingít, Haida and Híɫzaqv (Heiltsuk) people, among others, have gathered haaw da.aa (eggs on hemlock boughs) and kelp to share, trade and gift across communities.

Now, an unprecedented number of grey whales have joined the harvest, drawn by the same rich food source.

This is my first attempt at making bread other than pancakes. I just made a basic white bread for my first try. I think it came out pretty great and it's delicious toasted with butter and my homemade black raspberry jam. I can't wait to try a sourdough next.
