Brazil from Terry Gilliam.

It's dark as fuck but so is late stage capitalism.

Absolutely matte black deadpan British humor. Bleak as shit, but Bob Hoskins is a revolutionary heating ventilation and air conditioning commando being hunted by the government. It's an amazing movie.

Confess quickly! If you hold out too long you'll jeopardize your credit rating.

It's been a while and I only saw the movie once. That was plenty. agony-deep

Robert De Niro is the commando. Bob plays the bureaucratically entangled regular repairman.

Ahh. Thank you. It has been a bit. : )

It was my favorite movie for a long time. The various cuts that exist are completely different in significant ways. The studios mandated a 'happy ending' version that really ruins the whole story.

The director's cut is very dark indeed.

The version I saw seemed like a "happy ending" until it jumped back to what was actually happening outside of the torture victim's mind, ruined credit rating and all. agony-deep

Ya, the 'Love Conquers All' edit that Gilliam refused to accept ends just before that reveal. It also removes a bunch of other scenes to fit into a TV friendly viewing slot.
