Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

So much for embracing innovation.

lol

For anyone that has some time on their hands you can set up a Paper Trade account for free on TradingView and invest your monopoly fake money into stocks (like NVDA or why) and watch realworld news and events impact your "investment". It's a fun way to see capitalism in action.

Here's NVIDIA taking a huge fucking shit on the news that Deepseek is coming to kick their ass, riiiiggggtttt around the time OpenAI was on their knees in front of Trump begging for another half trill to get them through the next little gulley πŸ˜‚

There’s a LOT of monies tied up in US AI.

Enough that folks are losing their asses over this. Of course the purse holders want their fucking coin. The fix isn’t in yet, but it’s OTW.

Didn't Fucking Coin just have a rugpull? I think the smart money moved to Onanism Coin.

Anybody got a link to download it so we can propagate it via torrents?

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 29 points 5 months ago

I think they mean banning the service. Basically what they're afraid of is that it starts becoming de facto provider and muscles out US companies.

It would be hype if git+torrent ever became a thing.

I'd probably be sold if they ever figure out how to do p2p LFS. without it, you couldn't really maintain p2p mirrors of AI models.

zero is probably not important to you. Personally I'd just grab the 14 and 32b because that's all I can run/I don't have much disk space but R1 is the one talked about so much. git lfs is the best way to download. The R1 is like 400gb though, heads up.

Lmao, this writer is surely directly paid by the State Department. The other article linked at the end of this one is "unnamed sources (some of them not white, allegedly!) claim that the R1 thinking knows the Truth about Red China, but the Seeseepee demands the machine censor itself". Do not interrogate why the Evil Repressive State would demand the final result be censored but have nothing to say about the equally visible "thinking" process! Eat the slop!

ope they're doing a free market again

i think we should probably separate in our minds a ban from like an organization telling its employees not to use a thing. ChatGPT is β€œbanned” at my workplace but I am able to use local LLMs because they dont want me sending shit to OpenAI. If the navy has a halfway good security posture it should have some list of sanctioned LLMs people are allowed to use because who knows what some random company is doing with what you send to their API.

this article is not very good in other words

The US Navy doesn't have a great track record at even basic fucking opsec per se. See here; A Navy officer is demoted after sneaking a (Starlink) satellite dish onto a warship to get the internet

You'd think the best just the BEST military power in the world on a ship full of communications gear and detection doodads would have something in place to track in-house signals that aren't good for the cause type of thing. Maybe I'm a keener or whatever.

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 months ago

Reminds me of when American bases across Syria were mapped out in extreme detail because morons kept using strava to track their runs around their highly classified military compounds

  1. create an overvalued and exorbitantly expensive AI industry

  2. get shit on by a chinese competitor for a fraction of the money

  3. immediately ban all of the technology to replicate their breakthrough, and ban all access to the technology directly

  4. ???

  5. all my ~~apes~~ global hegemony gone
