I forgot to post this yesterday. Anyway, hope everyone had a good weekend. I made some major breakthroughs in Balatro this week, unlocking several of the few remaining Jokers I haven't unlocked, scoring over 100 million points (probably could've have gotten to e score if I had been smarter with my DNA joker) and also chipped away at my DS3 SL1 run, beating the Demon Prince fight after about 4 hours of head bashing spread out over the past week, so I only have Midir, Halflight, and Gael before I've officially conquered Lothric at level 1. Have a good week everyone

I think I'm burnt out on / done with Balatro. I came to it late (maybe two months ago when it got added to games pass) and it's... a little compulsive, good, but I don't really get the narrative of addictive genius.

I've been playing a bit of Football Manager 2024 and it's a fantastic reminder of both what you can build out of an old game that was basically an excel spreadsheet and also how little I know about modern football after 10-20 years of watching mostly to exclusively non-league.

I've found myself going back to State of Decay 2 whenever I can't sleep. At some point, if anyone is even remotely interested, I might have to try and explain my repeating return to this slightly janky, rather outdated, zombie (ugh, genre) game. But for now it's just a very satisfying, familiar game that's perfect for playing with audiobooks and longer podcast series.

Awful open source phone games (not that open source is necessarily bad; I've just had shit luck).

I am looking forward to Metroid Prime 4 and was so jazzed that the trailer showed no significant changes to gameplay.

Pentiment. I had a bit of a slump but now im in act2 and im super hooked.

I have downloaded Balatro on my phone. I feel historians of my life will consider this move to have been a mistake.

Just finishing up FF6 pixel remaster. Great game, but I'm glad it's almost over. FF 7 is calling me.

My bestie finally got me to play Pathologic 2 while she watched and she is having WAY too much fun watching me in ACTUAL PAIN playing this game... It's really fucking good though, like Jesus fuck, why is this game not more popular than it is...

absolutely nothing to play this week, so hitting some oldies

  • Hollowknight
  • MH World
  • Rise of the Ronin (but its crashing all the time and buggy as hell on pc, so on hold mostly)
  • Robocop rogue city (lost motivation to play it recently, probably near the end tho)
  • Oxygen Not Included ( bought base game on sale after pirating it a while back. Using creamapi for the dlc tho)

Spent too much time this weekend in the Fire Emblem hack embrace of the fog. It's a rougelite with >200 unlockable units.

Initially I was kinda put off cause it does the hades style thing where you throw yourself at essentially unwinnable runs at first and then you unlock stuff to make it easier and I think that's a little lame, but the insane variety in how the units work makes me want to keep sending another run to try out the units I just unlocked.

I had a unit in a run last night that was essentially meepo from dota. Didn't quite wrap my head around how to make them useable before they died though.

Been playing the 9 Kings demo. I'm unsure if I want to buy it when it comes out because it's horrifically imbalanced to the point it's already been solved. The choices you make due to this are obvious and it comes down to RNG.

Basically, there are units, structures, and bonuses that scale and then everything else that doesn't. You never take anything that doesn't scale while trying to get two blacksmiths, at least one library, and the Steel Coat enchantment. This will allow a unit to have 500+ damage against enemies with only 30 HP. Steel Coat is completely broken because it negates an attack entirely for each stack. That means it outscales HP.

If you don't get Steel Coat, a library, and blacksmiths, you can't win. It's just a matter of how quickly you can get those all stacked on one unit, then 2 more with similar setups. And because of Steel Coat, all your units have to be ranged or have high movement speed. Otherwise, you lose all your stacks of Steel Coat while enemies have theirs untouched.

The devs are aware of all this, but launch is about a week away. I'm not sure if they'll balance things by then. I hope they do because there's a solid game underneath all this.

I upgraded my graphics card a couple of weeks ago so I stole FF7: Rebirth now I can run it. The combat is generally really fun but the game seems loathe to let you have too much, with long sections of pressing forward to enter the next cutscene. Also, there are too many minigames and the PC controls for all of them are pretty terrible. On the other hand, when you do finally get to a decent fight they've tended towards being great. Roche is an absolute vibe.

Did two playthroughs of the last of us part 1 back to back. So I guess I enjoyed it

And now I'm back to playing Victoria 3. This game just keeps getting more broken with every patch. It is borderline unplayable at some points

Finally talked 3 friends into playing Reforger, so I'm looking forward into going around as a 6-man group doing stuff. Probably unsuccessfully but still. Valheim as well, with the same people. By myself, Ready or Not and got back to Rimworld after about a 4 month break.

fatal fury city of the wolves cw mentions of saPlaying the city of the wolves beta. Its really the horrors of capitalism that make it so that a real guy with credible SA allegations is a core selling point and playable character in the game. I was gonnna buy it before this, its actually a decent fighting game and the betas seem to have given snk the data needed to fix the online. Sucks

Played a couple runs of tiny rogue, once i can figure a way to get a good build consistently i think itll be an okay game.

They put venom in strive and he's weird and hard and i might try to learn him. Charge inputs tho...
