The Dutch media have started with spreading propaganda against Traoré

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 1 week ago

I shall personally bully every single person who speaks out against him

Yeah, at least it's very dumb propaganda that's not very convincing.

There seems to be an increased reporting on Burkina Faso across Western media and that means we have another coup coming up soon of course

[–] GrainEater@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 1 week ago

coup attempt, it will fail

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 week ago

I read somewhere that while Traoré was in Russia there was a significant assault by terrorists. (feels weird to use that word legitimately instead of ironically) I think it's kinda funny because the west really wants to give them the Libya treatment but they know they couldn't get away with it these days.

[–] Magicicad@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 week ago

I noticed that too! Lots of articles vaguely attributing massacres to the Burkinabe government.

People become real LGBTQ+ advocates the second they can blame the hate on Muslims somehow

Today I was helping a dude at my work and when we were finished he looked at me and said' : 'I'm from Turkey and I think you are a very handsome man, especially with your [my distinct facial qualities].' And I thought to myself: this is the behavior we should normalise lol. Uplift our fellow homies out there.

content warning: sexual assaultSo in Belgium we recently had a case of sexual assault in which a student raped another student after a night out while she was basically drunk to the point of being blacked out. She filed a report the day after when she found out. The student that raped her was convicted of rape but received only a fine, no punishment and no criminal record either. On top of that he was deemed 'charismatic and talented, full of potential' by the judge and received no ban from their field of work. Which is gynacology btw. Yes, a rapist is free to become a gynacologist because he is 'charismatic and talented'

A famous YouTuber from Belgium exposed his name in a video and was promptly arrested for it. He has a history of exposing criminals like that, becoming famous by exposing rich students who murdered a black peer during a hazing ritual. He was convicted of that also and was now on probation. The trial was today and he was sentenced to be free on probation again but he has to take the video offline and actually stop making content or face jail.

Yes, a rapist can become a gynacologist because he is talented and charismatic. But the YouTuber who exposes him is deemed a danger to society.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the rapist's name is Ruben Vanstiphout for anyone wondering

There is a page in history when the worker first fought back When the might of exploitation at last began to crack In farm and field and factory, in workshop, mine and mill A flame was lit, a beacon bright, that flame is burning still

Connolly was there, Connolly was there Bold, brave, undaunted, James Connolly was there

William Martin Murphy and his Dublin millionaires Tried bribery and corruption, hypocrisy and prayers To smash the Transport Union, their scabs they did enlist But all their graft was shattered by a scarlet iron fist

For Connolly was there, Connolly was there Bold, brave, undaunted, James Connolly was there

When the bosses tried to sweat the lads way down in Glasgow's Clyde A voice like rolling thunder, soon shook them in their stride In Liverpool and Belfast where the workers lived in hell James Connoly rose and gave them hope, the truth to you i'll tell

And Connolly was there, Connolly was there Bold, brave, undaunted, James Connolly was there

Oh Irishmen the day will come when workers one and all Will rise up from their bended knees and rally to the call Throw out the bosses' tyranny and shout from shore to shore For a working man's republic and for freedom evermore

Connolly will be there, Connolly will be there Bold, brave, undaunted, James Connolly will be there

ngl I always thought buddy on the left looked like a bum, pretending to be some superhero of fiction (mad max/greaser type) when there clearly was a hero from reality right in front of him...

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 week ago

Yeah, the guy on the left reminds me of Cyrus from Trailer Park Boys

Wonder if it's just me, or somewhat of a general ADHD thing, of finding "doer" speeches annoying at times. Mind you, I don't mean stuff like targeted calls to action, I don't think, because in that case it feels like a "let's do this" - it's more focused on the we, with the speaker being included in it.

I guess what bothers me is the sort of individualist kind of "put on your adult pants" talk, where like no matter how diplomatic the tone of it, the underlying implication is that there's some kind of action you're not taking that you're "supposed to" take and that you have missed the fact that you could be doing this action. And for some people some of the time, that's probably helpful. I think for me and why I bring up ADHD, is most of the time I already kinda know what I could be doing (sometimes to an absurd degree relative to proportional action because of gathering more info in lieu of actually doing). It's the mechanics of executive functioning that are more so the struggle rather than a lack of knowing. And I suspect if there's any trend to it and it's not just me, what people like me probably more often need is emotional support, an actual physical "I will go do this with you" if necessary (like for body doubling), and in general, a certain amount of trust that we're capable; that the problem isn't so much ignorance as just needing more support (or even just space, not being distracting) to get started.

Not about anything I've seen here BTW. More a general thing I've seen in various ways, some of which may be rugged individualism culture, though I'm not certain because I don't know how well executive functioning struggles are recognized in general, in the world.

[–] chickennuggies@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Wonderfully put, I too share a deep resentment for this particular type of way western society utilises language. I have health complications which also make executive function very difficult as a result of traumas, and truthfully it's insulting to me when this type of language is utilised. So much of the idioms used in the west these days have a very myopic understanding of how people can/do work. It is like an attempt to make people interact and behave monolithically (yet also sell them the idea that they're being individuals, see Andrew Tate). Just another reminder that western society is not built for humans, but rather by and for capitalists

FWIW I actively be an empathetic witness to other people instead of using those idioms because in my (current) understanding that is the purest form of love I can be and give

The Dems have completely given up on actually trying to win elections. They're throwing out David Hogg because he had the audacity to insult the senior citizens who refuse to let go of their power. Liberals will still defend them of course.

Podcast I used to be on degenerated into your typical masculinity-bullshit sports n' pop-culture pod with spikes of anti-Semitism from mid-40s dudes. It really is a shame putting a shit load of work into a few episodes I was on (before it went to shit)

Some of the episodes was about your typical conspiracy bullshit, yea, but I had a lot of fun doing FOIA requests and digging up old documents with the insane bullshit the CIA used to do back in the day (injecting LSD into the brains of kids is something I gotta find again but don't wanna view the pod again to support them) Plus, I didn't know they'd end up going down the typical route as they seemed to be your typical shock-jock lib types rather than chuds.

Ended up leaving because one of the people straight up turned into an asshole against me because of my "communist bullshit" despite multiple attempts at talking about the host with it and being fully able to deflect his shit back; just didn't wanna deal with it every episode. Host ended up agreeing because "he didn't want it political"

I'm not sure what kind of milquetoast muppet thinks conspiracies have nothing to do with politics, but I guess I know now. It makes sense, he ended up becoming more CHUD when he finally got himself into an okay job after a decade of getting fucked over by the companies in his area and living in literal squalor. Yet, commies and jews are the problem to him apparently as a Puerto Rican in Florida. Dear god, make it make sense. I tried explaining.

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

there must be something in the water in Florida that makes latinos turn into the scourge of the earth.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I wouldn't say it's a Latino thing, more so the countries they come from have equal rabid anti-communism and when they get to America they can blame all the faults of their struggle on communists and of course, with that "community", the internet offers jews as well. He really was a cool guy until his brain turned into sludge.

At least that's my theory. A lot of Latino coworkers I had here would get upset at the mention of socialism or communism. In the same coin, the oldest, most "chud" looking types actually turns out to be a pretty rad dude.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Not so much Puerto Rico but many other central american countries got significantly more dangerous and poorer when they started exploring communism. usa would pump the far right with weapons and do black ops for them while the communists tried to resist. The people who fled to usa blamed the communists. They told stories of the ebil commies, first just to gain sympathy from americans and later to signal that they were "the good ones." but over time and generations they came to really believe their lies.

State radio this morning suddenly started talking on Ibrahim Traore and Russian ties and my partner all of a sudden called it bullshit lol. Did not really expect it from her but she saw lots of comments on Dutch state media Instagram defending the man so the people know what's up it seems.
