So it's confirmed that Nebula wanted them to both-sides Palestine and "israel". Disgusting.

Who's Nebula? Second Thought was fresh ML iirc.

[-] Stoatmilk@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago

Nebula is a streaming platform that heavily advertises itself as creator-owned and free from corporate control. Unlike Means TV, it is not a cooperative, and is "half" owned by the guy from CPG Grey, the guy from Kurzgesagt, and some guy named Dave Wiskus. The other half is "owned" by the people making videos for the site, but the nature of this ownership is so opaque that as far as I can tell it just means they get half of the profits, a cut that is worse than what you can get on pretty much any competing platform.

CIA Grey, Kurzgegenocide, Dave Fedkus

Another streaming platform

fuck Nebula cancelled that shit the second they booted Second Thought. isn't their biggest funder a raving zionist?

Means TV is one of those recurring payments I’d forgotten about 😬 I dropped Nebula recently, which I only ever used to access Curiosity Stream.

[-] homhom9000@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Yeah I got in early on and forget to use it. There's some great content there though when I do check.

[-] newmou@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Were they both sidesing before? I’m not too familiar with Second Thought, just seen them here and there with YouTube videos

[-] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 22 points 6 months ago

No, Second Thought is JT from the deprogram podcast.

[-] newmou@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

Oh is Nebula a group that Second Thought was previously with

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago

Yeah Nebula is a “creator owned” streaming service mostly full of edutainment YouTube channels. As another commenter said how “creator owned” it actually is is up for debate, it’s mostly owned by CGPGrey, Kurtzgesagt, and a couple other guys

Yep. Idk if they were always that way, I remember liking their early videos a lot. But it was mostly stuff that political ideas have literally no impact on, like “Let’s compare the size of an atom to a cell to a person to a planet to a galaxy”

[-] davel@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

I imagine they changed after getting funding from oligarchs’ endowments and effective altruism creeps.

[-] Comp4@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago

Yeah Kurzgesagt does have some fun vids about space /animals etc. Everything about society/climate change reeks of neoliberal bullshit though.

[-] Cowboy@hexbear.net 1 points 6 months ago

Why? /gen.

I don't know much about them but I used to love the video they made about optimistic nihilism. The only bad video I know is their milk video.

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Nah, Nebula is a streaming platform. Like an alternative to youtube.

how is Means TV doing?

Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.
