A while ago, someone suggested having a second instance that federates with everyone, and that instance be the only one hexbear federates with. Like a demilitarized zone. I think it has merit, even though it's probably means much more work for the admins and more server overhead
I think that's just lemmy.ml
or lemmygrad, but they've already been through hell and back
I don't think it's that much more work if the sanctuary instance doesn't have a single comm. So, if you are logged on with the sanctuary account, you would see nothing under local and only Hexbear posts under All. The real work is vetting accounts that get created in the sanctuary instance. Most likely, account creation would be completely closed and only open to older Hexbear accounts with good standing.
Who Moderates the Moderators?
This is a new era of dunking and I am so here for it
I said that leftists shouldn't be doing open source platform development for libs and instead should be protecting lemmy with copyright so that libs can't use it. I was yelled at, but I will die on that hill maintaining I was correct.
I understand your argument. But I think @dessalines@lemmy.ml and @nutomic@lemmy.ml are big open-source people and want to give back to that community.
I can respect that for sure.
I am sure there has been some lemmy contributions from libs. So maybe there is some tangible upside to them being around. Lol
I'm not trying to like call the devs libs or anything, and I'm appreciative of their work. . I understand why intellectual property is bad, and how open source is useful for auditing. My argument is just that we don't live in a world where leftists can do open source development and it won't just be taken by libs to be used in ways other than how we intended it to be used.
We also don't live in a world where leftists can trust a project that isn't open source to not just be a Fed honeypot. Not that it's safe to use Lemmy to organize anything real, but at least I know they aren't leaking my IP to atomwaffen or those Florida Nazis.
That's why I said that I understand how it's important for auditing. You can publish the code and still protect it with copyright. I suppose someone could still steal it, but that's a few more hoops to jump through.
Well, they're getting paid for this
Lmao it is pretty funny watching the libs go mask off and show how full of shit they are.
Starting on All for the lols - switching to Local for the peace of mind
