the story here is that donie o'sullivan at cnn in particular, who doesn't have particularly a good understanding of politics himself, but is roughly a progressive sympathizer, personally likes hasan. that's it. they did over an hour and a half of interview and then cnn cut it down to this apparently. cnn is in general a dumpster fire, but there's the occasional decent bit of coverage.

I think of myself as the Ronald McDonald of the Left, the Doogie Howser of the Middle, and the Clown Prince of Costco.
So who is this Hasan guy? He any good or is this gonna be like that time my wife showed me Vaush because she “knew I liked communism stuff”?
I like him a lot and you should check him out at least for background noise if that is a thing you need.
He has done a lot of good things, particularly charity and union activism.
He is not perfect though, I think his weird American patriotism is just bizarre and I still don't know how much he actualy believes in it deep down(watching him for years now).
He also believes in some very liberal values(freedom/democracy) which also sounds more like pandering than a real and concrete ideology.
But that is the worst I've seen from him. When we live in a world where the fucking Chinese Communists are openly hugging the western Nazis during the holocaust things start to matter a whole lot less in the end, at least for me.
Nah he’s been relentlessly anti imperialist this last year (and before, but we saw a lot of people show their ass after oct 7).
Hasan is good. The only brainworms I've seen from him are China and even then he stays off the topic. He's relentlessly defended "tankies" (marxist-leninists) and for that he will always be considered "good" as far as I'm concerned. Honestly, I don't care what brainworms a person has as long as they're not punching left or patsoc.
Personally I think he's entertaining, and has solid media analysis, but he is very much a prolific twitch streamer and orients his content as such, even with an older average audience than usual for twitch.
Hasan has gone full tankie mode over the past year. Before that he used to be more moderate.
Regrettably this makes me more suspicious of hasan
Yeah like the piece even mentioned how he was at the DNC...but didn't mention the fact he got kicked out for not towing the party line on Palestine.
CNN had a video following him at the DNC I think and talked with him about it then. Might be conflating memories though.
Yeah, it was the same guy doing both interviews
Hi🐍🐍an is a CIA asset!
Edit: he's also the rightful president of Venezuela
He isn’t joe rogan though, he is a talking head of the left, non?
Indeed, to give him credit he kind of balked at the idea of being the leftist version of him and he said the dems aren't going to podcast their way out of the problem.
He also said Joe Rogan was their version. But they lost him.
Too bad Hasan is a big fan of Mr. Beast. I never watched streamers or anything before but saw a clip of him very recently praising Mr Beast unironically
Id be interested in seeing the clip you're referring to - i would be surprised if he's a 'fan' of Mr beast but I could see him commenting on how well he's gamed the YouTube algo.
I still like the take had on Mr Beast, he's the most optimized man in the world and that makes him inherently uncanny
He views China as imperialist to my knowledge. He's a socialist but he isn't very well read so he has weaknesses in viewing AES other than Cuba, and really in general ideologically
i don't think that's an accurate framing of his views on china. he pretty regularly defends and unironically. there's small amounts of criticism in his coverage, but overall i'd say he's one of the few people i've seen actively combat sinophobia, such as shouting at people who are serious about social credit score shit or talking about how the most famous talk show host is a trans woman or defending chinese investments in Africa
Fair enough, thanks for correcting me
