Have you considered that these are not SOLO (C) branded plastic cups? I don't think Top/Bottom/Switch was social media discourse prior to 2009 when SOLO (C) switched to their square cups.
Like egg1918 said it's mostly a drinking age thing. This stuff disappears outside of the high-school and early college scene.
My social circle was more about going together to get 40s from 7/11 and smoking/drinking shit beer around a fire.
