No, it's definitely the new $5 meals that they just rolled out like a month or two ago that are basically priced the same as a Happy meal with a similar amount of food
The fry company is blaming the meal deals because they come with a small fry instead of a giant one lol

Potatoes are cheap as fuck and fries make so much money
at least in europe, potatoes aren't nearly as cheap as they used to be as the changing climate has led to a couple of terrible harvests in a row
idk if it's the same in the usa though
Back home if the harvest isn't doing so good they crack open liberal skulls and get them that way
If this is what I think it is, and it really might be, they probably had a predicted profit they didn't meet and considered it a failure (similar to how dead space 2 was a financial success but didn't meet the predicted profit and so was deemed a failure and why dead space 3 was made to appeal to a broader audience).
Yeah, I remember EA saying that if Dead Space 3 didn't sell 10,000,000 copies then it would be considered a failure
