The majority of Americans who voted, at least in the swing states, have voted for the republicans. Why? Do the republican policies reflect popular opinion? Or is it that their vibes are more aligned with the public? Or maybe people are worse off now than they were 4 years ago and are hoping to turn back time? As a non-american I don't quite get it. People must think their lives will materially improve under the republicans, but why?

i don't think it's that republican policies reflect popular opinion but rather that popular opinion has turned against voting because it doesn't fix anything

Anecdotally, my exs mom, a Black Muslim woman who voted dem for everything, decided in like 2021? That she's never voting dem again because she was pissed about them not relieving student loan debt for her masters

Can't even imagine how many votes were lost for supporting genocide

And the thing is, if Trump wanted to cancel student loans, he would just cancel them, get them off the books, and dare his enemies to put the public back in debt. All this talk of "Oh we can't because the courts" just sounds like loser talk

Iirc Biden championed the law that made it illegal to discharge student debt. Like it was his baby back in ~2005 or something. People really thought he was going to unravell his own legacy and then believed him when he said his hands were tied.
