I think there is a third camp that is being overlooked and that is people that recognize we have an opportunity to help shift the overall culture of the fediverse for the better, simply due to our level of activity and united front.
I think there's also something to be said for hexbear local becoming much more chill post-federation. It seems to me like a lot of infighting has died out.
We needed a blow-off valve for that pent up dunking energy and it certainly has been a boon for that.
I think it's a good way to keep things in perspective, and we have also at times gotten a little bit too cozy with not sourcing claims in internal discussions. The federation with lemm.ee highlighted that issue at times. I think we've gotten more diligent in making sure our own claims are based in solid analysis (rather than the analysis of another user on the site).
the dunking seems to have very little effect
there's been a handful of lemm.ee users who have had their minds changed. one even apologized and admitted they were woefully uninformed. it feels like lemm.ee liberalism is annoying but ultimately something we can work with. SJW on the other hand is straight up fascist - the only discourse worth having is of the lead variety.
