They've been around 499 million years past their welcome if you ask me. We've evolved past the need for creatures that have to SWIM BACKWARDS because of their WACKY-ASS SHELLS (just ripping off zebras, can you even). Can't even be bothered to say EXCUSE ME when they bump into you because they spend all their time ZOOT ZOOTING around with their siphons instead of CONTRIBUTING TO THE ECONOMY and LOOKING WHERE THEY ARE GOING (they CAN'T because of their dumb FIXED EYES)
