WhatsApp is different because in a lot of cases, basically everybody uses it and it's replaced text messaging. So yeah there are plenty of dodgy group chats with wackos, but I only join groups with people I already know in person.

Yes. It's like telegram groups. They also have wierd new features like "communities" and "channels" so it's more social media than you would think.

Same with me. But I've also seen people get radicalized by joining weird groups.

Yeah that's true unfortunately. I tell my grandparents to ignore all the community features on WhatsApp. Facebook gives them enough brainworms already.
