To me the Hawk Tuah meme represents a full return to 2016 era politics. The Hawk Tuah meme has a lot of similarities with the Harambe meme. Both memes are a dog whistle. Both memes are popular with right wingers. Both meme were used as a fake presidential campaign. Harambe 2016 and Hawk Tuah 2024.
The similarities between 2016 and 2024 is that we have 2 presidential candidates that are extremely unliked. The meme represents a sort of political nihilism. To the people who don't follow politics, the meme is a venting of frustrations.
The Democratic party candidate was forced by an obviously fake primary, in 2016 the Democratic party threw there full support behind Hillary from the start and in 2024 nobody even ran against Biden. In 2020, there was an illusion of choice between a dozen centrist liberal dipshits who all became Joe's cabinet members. Also Democrats were convinced that Biden was going to be a return to the Obama era (good from the liberal's perspective), now they realize that it is not.
The Hawk Tuah meme is a dog whistle for the right wing dating culture and right wing sexual frustration. It's a woman with a southern accent (chud aesthetic) who is enthusiastic about a sexual act. The meme comes from a right wing style street interview where they ask her questions about how many sexual partners she's had and stuff like that. The purpose of the show is meant to create a framing of pre-existing patriarchal narratives. Like they ask a woman if she is single and how many sexual partners she has had, then they tell the audience that she is single because she had too many sexual partners or some other patriarchal reason. The purpose of the type of show is blame women for the sexual frustration that right wing men experience, their political beliefs making them unfuckable.
The liberals claiming Hawk Tuah as anti Trump happened well over a week ago, it was like 10 days ago. I was intentionally not posting it on hexbear because I was wishing the meme would go away. The reason that liberals want to claim the Hawk Tuah meme is because it is mainly popular with chuds. They think that if the woman from the meme (that chuds like) is against Trump then chuds are owned or something.

In this Rolling Stone interview from today, she says that she is taking an apolitical stance. Doesn't really matter either way.
I feel compelled to point out that this is not true at every opportunity. People did run against Biden but the DNC refused to acknowledge their candidacies.
Also, how common is it to run against a sitting president in your own party? I don't think I've ever even heard of that happening before this year.
I can't get this answer with a search (buried behind other bullshit); I'd have to check each election, however even a quick search makes it clear that a primary challenge is not unheard of, or even very rare as far as I could tell.
Wow, I didn't even know that. I thought it was basically if you're the sitting president you're automatically the party candidate for the next race unless you're on your 2nd term. Looks like someone ran against Clinton in 1996 but they don't really publicize it much when it happens I guess.
Not really true. Who ran against Biden? Dean Philips? Cenk Uygur? Those aren't real candidate. Also several states did not list any alternative candidates. North Carolina was the first to close ballot registration so that only Biden appeared on the ticket. The North Carolina ticket had 2 options Biden or "no preference". Also some states such as Florida refused to even hold a primary and declared Biden to be the de facto winner. There was no real primary. It was a farce so that now Biden can lie to people and say that 90% of Democrats want him to be the nominee.
How dare you forget orb mommy & brainworms?
I don't think an honest argument can be made about the quality/amount of ther candidates after the early announcers were instantly sidelined and ignored. At that point it is clear that the party apparatus would end your career and the safe bet is waiting a year or two for Biden to croak.
RFK is not running as a democrat, he's running as third party. Cornell West and Jill Stein are also third party. I'm talking about the democratic primary election. Marianne is a meme, she only got votes because she became a member of the uncommitted campaign where uncommitted wasn't an option. In states such as Virginia where uncommitted was not an option, the uncommitted campaign told people to vote for Marianne.
I'm not sure why you think that you're disagreeing with me. You agree that the party apparatus either blocked them from running or told them not to run. That means that nobody ran against Biden in the election. I'm not saying nobody wanted to run.
RFK ran as a democrat and ended that campaign to run as an independent & I don't think Marianne was a serious candidate, I just object to the "Biden won the primary" / "No one opposed Biden" news headline and lemmyverse post bullshit.
I don't think that I disagree with you in a broad sense but people actually did run and I think those attempts being killed is a meaningful thing to mention
Harambe was a dogwhistle? Did I completely miss something?
No this is just nonsensical ramblings. Anyone who feels the need to analyze the relationship between political collapse and drunk people saying dumb things need vitamin D
I am analyzing the memes of right wing political ideology, not drunk people. There is a relationship between right wing culture and political collapse. I'm sorry that you don't see it. There is no need for you to be hostile, unless you really like the hawk tuah meme.
I don’t like it. I find it extremely unfunny and uninteresting which is why i find the country’s fascination about it so absurd. And it’s not just you - conservatives are simultaneously laughing at it because it’s epic and funny, angrily jerking off, and lamenting the collapse of western society because of some drunk girl
Yes. Harambe was a racist dog whistle popularized by 4chan. Harambe memes often say that if Harambe hadn't been killed, then the world would been better. Harambe was killed to protect a black child who had fell into the gorilla enclosure. Racist people blame black people for Harambe being killed. The dogwhistle is racism. If you didn't know this, then it was a successful dogwhistle. Just google "harambe racist", there's dozens of news articles about it.
Huh. Fascinating, that one flew right by me and usually they do not. Might because of not being from the US though.
Nah, I just learned this right now and I'm from the US.
Huh. The entire time I've heard the meme, I've never heard anyone mention the ethnicity of the child. That does put a lot of the "we have lots of people, but gorillas are endangered" sort of memes into an alarming new context, thank you.
What exactly about what I said is not believable? The meme is like 3 weeks old at this point and I haven't seen it posted on hexbear until now.
https://youtu.be/C7tydu_erZo?t=433 You can watch the video here. cw for sexual reference and probably sexism.
Watch the video for yourself. Read the comments on the youtube video. Why are youtubers asking random drunk women outside of a bar about how many sexual partners that they've had to post on the internet? That is not normal behavior. Who watches this kind of content? Why has the Hawk Tuah meme been significantly more popular in right wing spaces? Is it possible that right wingers prefer memes that promote their own beliefs? Why did social media make up the story that the woman of Hawk Tuah was an elementary school teacher and fired for being lewd online? She's not a school teacher, she was a factory worker in a mattress spring factory. Why are people making fake campaign signs and tshirts for the meme and using the phrase "Hawk Tua 2024"? Why is the right winger Laura Loomer upset about the comments about Donald Trump? Why is ultra Biden stan Harry Sisson celebrating the comments about Trump? Why did reddit celebrate the comments made about Donald Trump? It was on the front page of reddit last week.
I think the woman of the meme is not involved in any of this. I think she is a bystander.
I'll never understand Right-wingers. I'd unironically love to meet a girl like her, she seems really friendly, funny, and comfortable with her sexuality.
But, girl sex bad.
If a girl is enthusiastic about sex, that means she wants to enjoy it, rather than seeing it as a "marital duty" to her husband. This means that she might even ask her husband/boyfriend to do things she enjoys, rather than just meekly acquiescing to whatever he demands. Right wingers hate women who openly talk about sex because it is a potential threat to patriarchal power.
Yeah, for sure. And then the women have enough experience and openness to critique the guys on what they don't do well or can't satisfy, which is too much for their insecurity.
