smug-explain The stupid tankies have failed to consider that I’ve created a nonfalsifiable scenario in my mind just now so actually it’s a bad thing when your industry is good smh. I know for years I’ve said it was a good thing to have strong industry and also have repeatedly explained how deindustrialization was bad and now I want to reindustrialize my own nation, so here’s a 15 minute video (NOT COPE!) on why good industry is bad but only for China.

I have consistently run into people that are generally cool but will bring up some WILD anti China propaganda like “ghost cities” and say with absolute certainty that their economy is actively collapsing. I try to temper myself and not get too angry at them personally when this kind of blatant propaganda and is pushed to the top of their feeds constantly. It’s pathetic to see how easy it is to manipulate public opinion and how seemingly nobody learns from the countless historical examples of manufacturing consent to support imperialist interests

The China “ghost cities” thing is so funny. Aside from all of the stories published about them only to see a few years later that all of the buildings are fully occupied, what really makes me laugh is that none of the westerners bringing up ghost cities ever talk about housing in their own country as a comparison.

So tell me then western millennial, do you own a home? No? That’s fine, not everybody wants to own a home. So if renting is your preferable alternative, it must be cheap then? No, and you don’t prefer to rent? Huh, well that must mean a lot of other people would prefer to own a home, so the housing situation is almost certainly adapting to current conditions to make affordable homes readily available? Also no? In that case, surely the housing crisis is being addressed by your government with the sole purpose of providing homes, not just building to benefit speculators and landlords, right? Still no? Hmmmm well now a ghost city is suddenly starting to sound like a highly preferable situation.

It’s an argument that completely falls apart under the slightest scrutiny, oh no the horror of providing housing prospectively!

Pathetic really is the word for it, part of what makes it exhausting to confront is how disheartening it is to have to lose respect for the analytical skills of people you like. Which isn't to say they're bad people or unworthy, it's just...it's like the feeling of trying to free a veal calf, seeing them stumble and fall on the first step, and realizing you're basically gonna have to carry them because they have been deliberately left unequipped for this journey.

Yeah it’s really disheartening to see intelligent, well intentioned people keep falling for the same shit over and over. Honestly if someone I was talking to revealed they’re super into healing crystals and such I’d still respect their intellectual capacity more than someone that buys into western propaganda hook line and sinker https://youtu.be/bLZW-kWr1F4

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Over the past 30-40 years China built enough new cities and homes to house 300-400M people, on the order of building housing for every person in the USA. They overshot by about a Seattle worth of housing and now homelessness is virtually gone in the country. Damn, what a fuck up.

Disgusting tbh think about all the poor landlords and their property values! After all, when rent and “imputed rent” is included in GDP you gotta pump those numbers up

Americans are not brainwashed and they do not fall for propaganda. They actively seek it out in order to justify their disgustingly wasteful and destructive lifestyles.
