each village has only one

mom says it's my turn to be the village trans woman

It's funny how it's probably a matter of statistics like if villages are 30-100 people assigned male at birth, and being trans feminine is like 1-3% (trans women are 3% in Samoa where it's quite accepted) automatically about one per village.

Then if there's religious ceremonial significance to be trans, an extra trans person might move to a neighbouring village without one etc. That smoothes out the statistical outliers either side (village with 0 and 2).

Then this guy comes and says "oh they must elect one person"

This is the real way new villages are born. If there's two trans women in a village, it's time to start a new one

The greatest thing a man can do for his community is become a woman

...and are as effeminate in their voice.

So does that mean that they did voice training in the 18th century?

Phrasing it this way makes it sound like a Cumtown or Seeking Derangements bit.
