LOCKDOWNS:

Prolonged lockdowns caused immeasurable harm to not only the American economy, but also to the mental and physical health of Americans, with a particularly negative effect on younger citizens. Rather than prioritizing the protection of the most vulnerable populations, federal and state government policies forced millions of Americans to forgo crucial elements of a healthy and financially sound life.

bait

The most vulnerable populations: businesses owners

[–] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 33 points 6 days ago

They are fixing the problem of bad policy by getting rid of policies

[–] BilduEnjoyer@hexbear.net 23 points 6 days ago

lol my mental health was thriving during lockdown. I was doing so many hobbies. My friends held discord movie watch parties and I reconnected with a lot of people.

I’m also an introverted nerd tho.

[–] PanArab@lemm.ee 19 points 6 days ago

The lockdowns made remote work the norm in my industry and I'm thankful for that. My mental and physical health couldn't be better now that I don't regularly suffer rush hour traffic.

I know you all (most of you all) are just joking. But please remember that COVID didn't originate from Ft. Detrick either.

*yes I know a lot of other biological weapons did

Obviously not, but I wonder where the line is between us being ironic, to it becoming a thing in leftist spaces unironically.

[–] InappropriateEmote@hexbear.net 20 points 6 days ago (2 children)

It has already unironically been a thing here on hexbear. E.g.

[–] hotcouchguy@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I do think it's actually a plausible theory, and the more they talk about the Wuhan lab the more suspicious I get about ft Dietrich.

TBH I don't feel like I know enough about the details to be anything but agnostic at this point, I just know I would not be surprised in the least if the U.S. military (usually via Ft. Detrick) origin theory did turn out to be real. There are some users here who I respect that do find it very plausible or even likely, and that alone is enough for me to not want it relegated to "a theory we do not entertain at hexbear." I share your suspicions. I'd also be fine to see the theory totally shot down. But I can't help but hate the idea of there being an official hexbear line of flat denial, you know?

[–] AF_R@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Nah you're right for this. It's becoming a bit of a trend to rely purely on vibes to analyze things, because leftist vibes are correct more often than not.

However, not utilizing material analysis, research, and critical thought is a very dangerous habit to get into.

I agree, and while I find the bit funny (especially because the Detrick thing was started by PRC media as a clap back against baseless claims of intentional release by the Chinese), I think if we teeter too close to that edge too often, we might become a little too used to that way of thinking.

[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No it wasn't

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No it wasn't

I clearly remember it was circulated by many media accounts on Western social media. Especially from CGTN

People were literally talking here about how ft detrick's waste water sterilization was broken for a year before shutting down in 2019 before China even said anything though

China mentioning it was the soypoint-2 cherry on top

Not complaining, but it's funny/admirable how leftists are OK with policing each other's jokes. Tbh often I'll mentally have an idea for badposting, but then scratch it as "ironic bigotry is still bigotry".

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

You police your own jokes? Sorry, but all cops means all cops, enjoy your ban.

I think it is good to be cautious about potential missunderstandings.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 26 points 6 days ago

i thought this was like a joke, but no. Nope that's definitely what happens when you go there. a joke of a country goddamn the rest of the world sucks so bad to let this bumbling shitshow keep us cucked this hard amerikkka

given how dumb these people are, do we think it'd be hard to externally replace that page with the imgur link?

I had a horrible cough that lasted 3 weeks and I felt like I was dying. Laid on my stomach on my bed coughing towards the floor with my head drooping off the bed for days. This was January 2020. I am in the US, and around many people from around the world indoors often, especially people from asia. I think I had covid before the first official diagnosis was confirmed in the USA. Anyway...

[–] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 6 days ago (1 children)

My town got hit back in november-december of 2019. Eastern US. My entire workplace got taken out one after another all down for the count for like a week. I also remember around the same time seeing stories of an unidentified flu-like illness in nursing homes in the area. I've had covid a couple times after the official recognition too, and im telling you i had covid in the US in 2019.

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Remember "vape lung"? That shit was covid

Covid was around the world already before it was noticed in Wuhan. China just gets all the blame for being the first nation to identify the virus and attempt to combat it.

[–] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 6 days ago

ya thats how i see it too. China just happened to be the first to notice it.

Milan Italy had Covid samples in their sewage from right around the first case was discovered in Wuhan, which happened shortly after an international sporting event with heavy Italian participation. The Military Games were done in late October.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7428442/#%3A%7E%3Atext=In+Italy%2C+our+group+has%2Cet+al.%2C+2020).

The earliest dates back to 18 December 2019 in Milan

https://www.cdc.gov/museum/timeline/covid19.html

The very first thing on the timeline:

December 12, 2019

A cluster of patients in China’s Hubei Province, in the city of Wuhan, begin to experience the symptoms of an atypical pneumonia-like illness that does not respond well to standard treatments.

So regardless if China was able to stamp down and completely stop the pandemic in Wuhan immediately, it was too late. It was already abroad in Europe.
