The strike took place following months of protest from Indian farmers, a response to three farm acts passed by the Parliament of India in September 2020. According to protesters, the farm acts would leave small farmers, the vast majority, at the mercy of large corporations. Poor farmers were already desperate before the laws were passed - in 2019 alone, 10,281 agricultural workers committed suicide.

Dozens of farm unions began organizing protests demanding the repeal of these laws. After failing to get the support of their respective state governments, the farmers decided to pressure the Central Government by marching to Delhi en masse.

The farmers arrived at Delhi on November 25th, 2020 and were met by police, who employed the use of tear gas and water cannons, dug up roads, and used layers of barricades and sand barriers to try and stop their march.

On November 26th, 250 million workers from all over the country initiated a general strike in solidarity with the farmer's struggle. According to Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, trade unions issued a twelve-point charter of demands which included "the reversal of the anti-worker, anti-farmer laws pushed by the government in September, the reversal of the privatisation of major government enterprises, and immediate [Covid] relief for the population".

Farmer protests continued for more than a year, featuring mass marches, clashes with police, and many failed negotiations between farmers' unions and the government. Rakesh Tikait, a leader with Bharatiya Kisan Union (English: Indian Farmers' Union) stated in October 2021 that approximately 750 participants have died in the protest.

Among the dead was a Senior Superintendent of Police in the city of Sonepat, who committed suicide, saying he could not bear the pain of the farmers. His suicide note read "Bullets fired from the guns kill only those whom they strike. The bullet of injustice, however, kills many with a single stroke... It is humiliating to suffer injustice."

In a televised address on November 19th, 2021, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that his government would repeal the three acts in the upcoming winter parliamentary session in December. The national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Rakesh Tikait, stated the protests would only cease once the laws were repealed.

The film actor Deep Sidhu also joined the protests, and was quoted as having told a police officer the following: "Ye inquilab hai. This is a revolution. If you take away farmers' land, then what do they have left? Only debt."

random site question, i see a decent amount of 'deleted' posts with the red trashcan next to them, but never stop being able to see them in a comm and read comments etc. Is that intentional or is there certain deleted posts I can still see while others are properly deleted? doesnt really matter just wondering whats up

Considering getting a chinese chef knife for christmas, really I just would like any particular sort of chef knife that I can take responsibility for myself so that it doesnt end up in the washing machine, but the chinese chef knives seem really neat and good at most stuff so thats a plus.

I had an idea in my head but the finished effort is underwhelming. Oh, well.

Guy I work with with and has the same schedule as me runs a dnd group, which means I could play dnd which is cool. They've played together for over 10 years, are hack n slash as fuck, have never gone outside prefab material and are super attached to their characters who are essentially walking gods on earth. This is the opposite of who I wanna play with and they'd hate me for 'ruining the escapism' or whatever for not wanting a power fantasy. Nerds ruin nerd stuff.

I got a customer service email and it was signed with the name: Lady Chiara. I like that a lot more than the typical and phony names they use like Bob Smith who might be in Bangalore.

Anyone remember the name of that movie where the kids character growth is shown by changing his answer as to what type of communist he is?

It’s like PNW hippies raising a trot in the woods or something.

Feels very weird to grab my arm and just feel pure muscle. Used to be able to feel my bones but after working out for a year now I have to get real close to the wrist before I can feel them. This isn't an exercise post, moreso, idk, it just feels weird that I still have this sense of what my body is and the actual physical thing isn't what my mental image of it is

I hate how hard it is for me to call out of work. I get so panicked worrying about if I should. Is it worth it. Am i sick enough. Are they going to hate me for burdening them. I spend 20 minutes working myself up into panicked nausea before I can even pick up the phone. It's stupid and I ffucking hate it. It's especially hard now that I'm a cook because there are so many fewer people there who could replace me. Someone's either going to have to work like 12 hours or they're going to have to call someone in. And I feel bad about it because I'm not THAT sick, but at the same time, I don't want to feel like I'm chained to this fucking job. I'm tired, I didn't get any sleep last night, and I'm still coughing up chunks from a week long respiratory infection. I deserve to take one more day off before I'm back.

I'm making the mental call (not actually making the phone call) for you. You're too sick to go, comrade

Didn't feel in the mood to be dealt a frighten today, so I tried out Voices of the Void's "Ambiance" mode. So in this mode, not only are there no story events or spooky signals, there is also no server breakdown and transformer restarts. There is supposedly no random events, although I did one day notice a radar blip right outside the base, was just a single random door standing outside. When I walked to it, it loudly slammed shut, so that was "Uncomfy." Other than that, it is a nice time with extraterrestrial signal hunting and report filling. :vibin: :posadist-nuke:

PS: Don't worry about the loud wood and metal sounds that might suddenly happen during the first day or so, that's just all the mannequins realizing that they are in the wrong mode then self-destructing.

my sinus infection has completed its migration into the lungs and throat district. luckily i don't smoke with cigarettes anymore so it shouldn't turn into a lung infection, but i'm definitely going to enjoy coughing up what feels like wet sand for the next couple days.

I was at this big convention today for sweden's left party. Our party leader, Nooshi Dadgostar, gave a great speech which included talking about how we're taking on the world's richest man, Elon Musk, and she said to our boys at IF Metall and all the people striking in support: "Give him hell". Badass.
