Wild speculation here. GOP analysts are going over the charges against the big wet boi and they come to the conclusion that he is actually going to be convicted and imprisoned. They pull a the ol' Bernie screw job except on Trump, and Haley gets the nomination.
the problem there is the republicans actually like winning elections and don't tend to care who it is, as long as they win. The Democrats do not care about winning elections. Even when they win they concede to republicans
Nominating anyone other than Trump would instantaneously split the republican voting base.
