Ontologically, the Mid West is the polar opposite of the Middle East.

No further questions.

What is the "midwest"?

ISN'T THAT WHERE AMERICA EXPORTS ALL IT'S EMO AND POP-PUNK FROM?

I loved that song where it sang about how everyone's shit, the towns rubbish, everyone's two faced, none of these consistently occurring problems are relative to my behaviour in anyway, gotta get out of this town.

Truly a banger 🙌

I'm not American but even I know that the midwest is The Real America™.

[–] trompete@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I always suspected America was fake, but turns out some parts are real.

[–] silent_water@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

it's not, it's just a plot by big corn to infect us all with 5g

The Old Nothwest became known as the Midwest as the US expanded further westward. The heart of the Midwest is therefore Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. This is objective fact. meow-tableflip

Iowa gets in on a corn and casserole-based technicality, but the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Kansas are wheat-growing plains states. Missouri is the south.

[–] zifnab25@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

Missouri is the south.

Damn you Henry Clay. Damn you straight to hell.

Slightly related: it annoys me that "the south" is a region in the USA. I'm fine with everything else, east coast, west coast, midwest whatever. But if I want to talk about the south, I can't say "southern America" because people will think I'm talking about the continent of South America. If i talk about a "southern American" then I have to clarify that I mean someone from Alabama.

Really the problem was calling a country the same thing as a continent. Shit just gets confusing. Call the south of the USA Dixie or something idc

"the former confederacy"

I feel strange since moving out of the Midwest. I do not miss the simpering attitudes whatsoever, but I do miss some of the terrible bland foodstuffs I left behind. I just want good brats and dill pickle chips, why is that so hard to find.

[–] eatmyass@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

As someone not from the Midwest: Ohio, Indiana, northern Kentucky (specifically from metro Cincinnati down through Owensboro but not Paducah, and including Lexington), lower Michigan, Illinois (except for Mississippi alluvial plain) and most of Wisconsin.

Minnesota is it’s own cultural area that could or could not include northern wisconsin and the upper peninsula (greater Minnesota), nd sd ne ks is the Great Plains, and Iowa and Missouri I have no clue what to do with. St. Louis might be the Midwest that’s the only part up for debate here.

I’m objectively correct and you hate it

My thoughts, which is 100% right:

[–] silent_water@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

I've never seen a more disgusting picture in my life

[–] Orcocracy@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

This is mostly correct, but you forgot to include some of the states and territories. If the easternmost part of the US is the Virgin Islands, and the westernmost part is Guam, then the geographical Midwest of the US is the Eastern Pacific Ocean. This is an inarguable truth. The capital of the Midwest is Honolulu.

[–] TillieNeuen@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Calling Rocky Mountain states the Midwest will not stand! shoe

The border between France and Germany is pretty much exactly between Westerm Europe and Central Europe. That's the midwest.

Where “inland northern English” is dominant… no southern drawl allowed.

[–] Mister_Bennet@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

Everything to the east of the western mountains and west of the eastern mountains. The great plains = midwest. all of it.
