Not fighting but I went to a pretty legitimate dark souls 3 pvp event with about 70 players, I came in first because I’m hot 9/10 but really good at souls games, but all my opponents STANK really badly so I intentionally moved my set up a few feet away from the other players and refused to shake their hands because they smelled really bad. Everyone got mad at me but it was mostly because I’m trans

meltyblood is sometimes held in gas station bathrooms

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 12 points 5 months ago

The things I smelled in the gas station bathroom when I worked for one would bleach the soul

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago

There was a gas station bathroom that was an occasional DIY punk venue cause we found out thru left the door unlocked and there was an outlet open for amps n shit

LARP tourneys. You think unwashed nerd is bad, try unwashed nerd after a week outside in 80 degree heat and 80% humidity rolling around in the dirt, drinking, eating processed crap.

Chess boxing. High activity to low activity really gets body temps up.

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago

I'm told there have only been two or three chess boxing games that have ever ended by checkmate.

[-] radiofreeval@hexbear.net 7 points 5 months ago

I just watched one that ended in checkmate so I'm not sure about that. There have been a lot of bouts and it would be weird if I watched half of them that ended in checkmate.

There is no question it would be melee

[-] buh@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago

blazblue

smash tournaments might be smellier overall due to the level of popularity, but when it comes to smelliness per capita, it's blazblue

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago

are there mugen tournaments? if there are I vote for that

[-] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago

I want to say Smash Bros, but it's hard to believe that a room full of groomers would be that unkempt

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 5 points 5 months ago

That's just Smash Ultimate. It's bad enough that the (very reactionary) FGC already uses Smash players writ large as a punching bag, don't put that evil on us too, especially after Evo had to be cancelled that one year in large part because the dude running it was a serial groomer abusing his power.

Melee is a very sweaty game, Project M (etc.) only marginally less so, so I accept the stink allegation.

[-] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 3 points 5 months ago

All right, fine -- then the objectively correct answer is Time Killers, because the only people who remember that game are shambling reanimated corpses that had to be brought back via Juche necromancy just for the Time Killers tournament.

...and now I'm sad that it never got a sequel or a next-gen makeover sadness

It's not what you're looking for, but there's an old browser game that got rebooted into a Steam game called Super Fighters Deluxe that is pretty similar and I think it's still being updated.

From going to CEO in Orlando, FL it was the smash room that smelled the worst.

[-] SoloboiNanook@hexbear.net 6 points 5 months ago

Mortal Kombat and smash and it ain't close.

I've been to em all.

[-] an_engel_on_earth@hexbear.net 5 points 5 months ago

tekken and street fighter feel like they have the most barefoot fighters so probs them lol

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago

Depends. How big is the tournament?

The smelly events are the ones held in like a college classroom or bar or hall without ventilation and aircon.

The events that are perfectly fine are in exhibition centers where there's high ceilings and full aircon and air circulation intended for large events.

I've been to a few tournaments including Evo last year to compete in Street Fighter 6(excited to go again this year). Gotta say I went expecting con funk but everyone was smelling kinda fresh. Seems like the FGC got the memo to shower in the hotel and stocked up on speedstick.

Then....coming back it hit me immediately. Some of the foulest B.O. I've ever experienced and it was coming from two dudes I was sandwiched between on my 3 hour return flight back. The minute the flight took off they both pulled out their switches and booted up Smash Bros. I hate to stereotype...buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut......

It would smell like bullshit blazing.

I feel like enough people would get into the aestetic to develop the smell of the game though

[-] AmerikaLosesWW3@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 5 months ago

melty blood, full of weebs

[-] Ocommie63@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 5 months ago

Blazblue would be my guess
