On reddit earlier the top comment on the post about Oprah asking for money was calling her a champaign socialist because that's when you're rich but ask other people to donate money.

The people explaining that's not what champaign socialist meant weren't getting nearly as much support as the people saying "no it's when your rich and ask other people for money"

Reddit still thinks socialism is whatever Norway is doing, China is 'authoritarian', North Korea is 'evil', Cuba is sometimes 'evil', sometimes not

It's a website that caters to people who will argue for 50 comments explicitly about spelling and grammar in a comment that is completely wrong anyway

Honestly I see that stuff here as well

Arguments about "state capitalism", "market socialism", "communism vs early stages of socialism"

Just call it communism for everything like the early theorists did since it's a clear distinction from the socialist but not communist people

I think he looks fine. Not even very weathered, just seems like a large older man.

[–] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

He looks great, I love a silver fox but like the last time I saw the rock he wasn't as aged and it was just a shock to see ngl

Yeah dude looks solid! I’m certain he has all manner of elixirs and potions helping him out, but I am certain that physical fitness, diet, and general wellness goes a long way too.

[–] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Turns out fitness and exercise helps more with aging than the blood of your children. Who knew.

Oh yeah, access to regular check-ups, physicals, and generally having a real relationship with your doctor(s) is also probably a key ingredient in the fountain of youth.

I had a coworker who was amazed that the queen lived so long and was talking about her good genes. I told her I thought world class medical care from the moment she was born probably had something to do with it

Omfg why does time exist?!

[–] Tachanka@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

as a bit, I asked a chatbot, and it gave me a TL;DR answer

spoiler

The question of why time exists is a complex and philosophical one that has been debated by scientists, philosophers, and theologians for centuries. There are many different perspectives on this topic, and no consensus on a single answer. However, here are some possible explanations:

Physics: According to the laws of physics, time is a dimension that allows us to measure the duration between events and the order in which they occur. It is a fundamental aspect of our universe, along with space and matter. Some physicists argue that time exists because it is a necessary component of the universe's fabric, allowing for causality and the evolution of physical processes.
Perception: Time may exist as a subjective experience, a way for our brains to make sense of the world around us. Our perception of time is closely tied to our brain's ability to process information and create memories. This perspective suggests that time is not an objective reality but rather a tool our minds use to organize our experiences.
Psychology: Time can be seen as a mental construct, created by our brains to help us understand and navigate the world. This view posits that time is not an external force but rather a product of human cognition.
Philosophy: Some philosophers argue that time is an illusion, and that true reality is timeless. According to this view, our perception of time is a result of our limited understanding of the world, and it disappears when we reach a higher level of consciousness or spiritual awareness.
Religion: In religious contexts, time is often seen as a creation of God or the divine. Many religions teach that time is a dimension that allows humans to fulfill their purpose and achieve spiritual growth.
Cosmology: From a cosmological perspective, time may exist as a consequence of the Big Bang theory. The expansion of the universe, according to this theory, created the dimension of time, allowing for the evolution of matter and energy.
Quantum Mechanics: Some interpretations of quantum mechanics suggest that time may not be absolute but relative, depending on the observer's frame of reference. According to these theories, time is not a fixed, linear concept but rather a flexible and dynamic quantity that can be affected by gravity and motion.
Evolutionary Biology: From an evolutionary perspective, time may have evolved as a means to optimize survival and reproduction. The passage of time allows living organisms to adapt, learn, and respond to changing environments, ultimately increasing their chances of success.
Anthropology: Time may exist as a cultural construct, shaped by human societies and their needs. Different cultures perceive and organize time differently, highlighting the relativity of temporal concepts.
Mystical: Finally, there are mystical and esoteric traditions that propose time is an illusion, and that true reality transcends temporal constraints. These beliefs often posit that time is a dream or a projection of the mind, and that enlightenment or spiritual awakening allows individuals to access timeless realms.

These are just a few of the many possible explanations for the existence of time. Ultimately, the nature of time remains a mystery that continues to intrigue thinkers across various disciplines.

Okay let me reframe it, why can't I be hot forever?!

[–] Tachanka@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

well if the evangelicals are right, everyone who's cool will be hot forever when they die. this-is-fine

as for the bodies we leave behind, evetually the sun will turn into a red giant, swallowing the earth and making everyone on it hot forever. amen.

[–] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

"I knew I was destined to be hot"

I say as I read the latest reports on increasing temperatures and global warming.
