"The traitor: Degradation of Alfred Dreyfus, degradation in the Morland Court of the military school in Paris"

The Dreyfus affair (French: affaire Dreyfus) was a political scandal that divided the Third French Republic from 1894 until its resolution in 1906. The scandal began in December 1894 when Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a 35-year-old Alsatian French artillery officer of Jewish descent, was wrongfully convicted of treason for communicating French military secrets to the German Embassy in Paris. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and sent overseas to the penal colony on Devil's Island in French Guiana, where he spent the following five years imprisoned in very harsh conditions.

In 1896, evidence came to light—primarily through the investigations of Lieutenant Colonel Georges Picquart, head of counter-espionage—which identified the real culprit as a French Army Major named Ferdinand Walsin Esterhazy. High-ranking military officials suppressed the new evidence, and a military court unanimously acquitted Esterhazy after a trial lasting only two days. The Army laid additional charges against Dreyfus, based on forged documents. Subsequently, writer Émile Zola's open letter J'Accuse...! in the newspaper L'Aurore stoked a growing movement of political support for Dreyfus, putting pressure on the government to reopen the case.

In 1899, Dreyfus was returned to France for another trial. The intense political and judicial scandal that ensued divided French society between those who supported Dreyfus, the "Dreyfusards" such as Sarah Bernhardt, Anatole France, Charles Péguy, Henri Poincaré and Georges Clemenceau; and those who condemned him, the "anti-Dreyfusards" such as Édouard Drumont, the director and publisher of the antisemitic newspaper La Libre Parole. The new trial resulted in another conviction and a 10-year sentence, but Dreyfus was pardoned and released. In 1906, Dreyfus was exonerated. After being reinstated as a major in the French Army, he served during the whole of World War I, ending his service with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He died in 1935.

The Dreyfus affair came to symbolise modern injustice in the Francophone world; it remains one of the most notable examples of a miscarriage of justice and of antisemitism. The affair divided France into pro-republican, anticlerical Dreyfusards and pro-Army, mostly Catholic anti-Dreyfusards, embittering French politics and encouraging radicalisation. The press played a crucial role in exposing information and in shaping and expressing public opinion on both sides of the conflict.

Having one of those days where I'm just grumpy and see everything in a shitty light.

Jfc university poly sci profs are cooked. I overheard one of them talking to their students "I don't care if you're the biggest trump supporter ever, as long as you can back up your claims. I've given great grades to papers I hate." So glad I never even considered taking a political science course lmao

Also I love Slavic profs, every single one provides all the material needed free of charge, no $300 textbooks required

Quit my job over a month ago and did a fuckton of very intense advocacy work, like literally spending all day and night and not showering and barely eating because it was so consuming. Then 9 FUCKING DAYS of family time 2 days after settling down from the advocacy. And THEN I had to write a statement of purpose for college where you have to talk yourself up and I hate that the answers are self evident like "I WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL TO MAKE MONEY BECAUSE I NEED THIS STUPID SLIP OF PAPER EVEN THOUGH I'VE BEEN DOING THE WORK FOR YEARS". And today I'm submitting my application for a Masters program and THEN I CAN FINALLY RALAX I AM SO TIRED Y'ALL agony-yehaw .....Except tax season cometh. God dAMN

"Watching Adam Friedland in the Adam Friedland Show made me like Jewish people again,” Ye wrote alongside a poster for the podcast, which also starred Nick Mullen. “No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people.”

The rapper added, “No Cumtown fan can be labeled antisemite knowing Adam is Jew. Thank you Adam Friedland I love you.”

porky-happy: “Capitalism wishes to make everyone unequally rich, socialism wishes to make everyone equally poor.”

This is such a bs cliche. If we lived in a world where the average wealth was between millionaires and quadrillionaires, then one million dollars would literally be worthless. Money is inherently power and if that level is commonplace, then prices would rise to follow suit. Billionaires understand this and that’s why they use both rent-seeking strategies and artifical scarcity, the latter of which also disproves this cliche.

Hadn't watched movies in a while. Finally got around to watching Thirst (dir. Park Chan Wook). It's great! Would recommend, fun take on vampires and uses the concept to explore a lot of interesting themes beyond just the usual good overcoming evil. Now I just have to see Stoker and I'll be done with his whole filmography. Truly the best to ever do it.

got released from jury duty after a few hours. they didn't need anyone on standby so I treated myself to hot chocolate!

yapping about adultingi consistently find that these sorts of "boring adult" things are intimidating to me. I lose all focus on anything else and can only fixate on this slowly approaching event.

So I get really freaked out, and then I show up and remember that they have to be able to explain this shit to everyone in the state, so like, I don't need to obsess about not understanding it or doing it wrong. It's a process I guess

With all the new trump stuff he's been talking about wanting to do, at least this next 4 years will be interesting in an amusing way, rather than just pure nightmare fuel.

He loses like his whole territory to his competitor and doesn't really do anything about it.

He's both unhinged and passive at the same time

I love LEGO games and I picked up most of them from a humble bundle last year, but goddammit I really wish I could delete the TERFy Potter games from my steam library. i'll never play games from that ethically mean-spirited universe.

Just realized kamala-coconut-tree is going to have to certify that mccrucified won the election, and that is the last thing anyone is gonna see of her until they decide she's in the mix for 2028. Will also be fun to see what college gives her some makework "job", so she'll have something to do for the next 2.5 years

My ADHD character trait is that every time someone asks me a question while I'm in the middle of something at work I lose 1 energy. I'm currently at like -200 energy for the day and half of that has originated from one person.

Just gonna drop this here because I wonder what other people think. But after loving arcane season 1 I couldn't get through more than one episode of season 2. The copaganda + marvel vibes were just too strong. I just started watching Chihayfuru instead

Rewatches 2021 dune last night cause I'm finally gonna watch part 2 tonight and while I've had previous complaints about bland visuals and a lack of exposition regarding stuff that's gonna be really important later on, but also, Zendaya as Chani was a bad choice, she's not a character actor and when she's on screen I see the actor, not the character.
