I remember on the old sub that people would talk about running for local office and irl organizing. That's kinda been absent for the last couple years on here unfortunately.

I think it's due to the "opsec" culture which is downstream from putting shitposting as a priority over activism. I don't really take issue with it exactly, but it's a choice and it has consequences.

It's possible that could change in the future, but the momentum definitely isn't there right now.

Tbh I think Hexbear may be locked out of that evolution cause of the choice to pursue it as an unserious shitposting forum that spends half it's energy reporting on the lib tweet of the day or spamming "death to america x100". if I visualize myself getting semi-serious business done, I don't see myself including this place as part of my legacy, regardless of whether it's factually true or not.

Can't your partner take you back home?

They have jacked up prices now that it is clearly just them and Lyft. Same story for AirBnB.

Thing is that cabs are now competitive again. Took one from the airport last time cause like 6 of them were lined up while the Uber was a 15 minute drive away. the ride was the same cost. They're losing at their own game cause they bought their own bs.

Similar for Airbnb. They extracted so much profit that is just more convenient to get a hotel that's "professionally run" to some extent for the same price.

Someone should drop "right, always good to see a Jill voter out in the wild :)" and massage it from there (I'm sure you'll get banned so it doesn't matter anyway)

Hard pill to swallow maybe is that if you "like" modern China, you can't be a maoist. There's sort of a contradiction in supporting both (I'm not exactly sure what I mean by "support", but, you know....)

Oh no! She's only going to win (or lose) by a margin of 10% in your state instead of 10.000001%!!

It feels like it's gotta have a foul play element beyond negligence. It may not but have one, but it just feels unlikely.

They're used for commercial baking with those 6ft tall carts of bread you see at subway (or Walmart)

Yep in my party they're getting assigned to the bookstore for the rest of their career, if I'm in a good mood.

Seriously, just fucking lie your asses off. I'd respect it way more. This is just sad.

I truly believed "anyone but Hillary" could rout trump on an election without too much trouble, but this is extreme loser energy, I can't believe how over it is. any swing state hog that they imagine who they were trying to triangulate with this is just gonna be like "wow that's smug as hell, I'll just vote for trump so I don't have to listen to that crap".

Once again, it's to be expected when you bring a bunch of loser clinton advisors on to your campaign. Where tf are Obama's people? At least he won?? Just lie like he did it's not hard hooolllly shit. Everything they do is to try and grab Republicans and they sieck so so bad at it.

Kamala apparently picked up a handful of Hillary advisors so this whole situation is to be expected.

CDMXicans, please chime in

But yeah it's wild the way the city is on a whole lakebed that was drained cause the flooding was too inconvenient to the Spanish colonials, and the last bit of it that was still remaining was about to become a whole ass airport. I guess AMLO won just in time to cancel it (partially complete) and turn it into an Ecological Park. A huge W for a place that needs a sustainable source of water. It's pretty damn convenient that they already are in a lakebed if they can manage it correctly.

Anyway wealthy business interests apparently were big mad about it.

Just an idea I had bouncing around. It'd take some work from the devs so idk if it would be worth it, just thought it was interesting.

Cast Away [2000] (hexbear.net)
submitted 2 years ago by spectre@hexbear.net to c/movies@hexbear.net

What is up with this movie? Just watched it recently and it's aged incredibly poorly imo

It's been well established that Tom Hanks is a CIA asset, and we've had a handful of threads about how Forrest Gump sucks this year, and it definitely bleeds into Cast Away as well.

  • The "end of history" moment right at the beginning of the movie, where FedEx brings "freedom" to post-USSR Russia.
  • The whole film is just an ad for FedEx
  • I know things need to look good on film, but decades later, a lot of the survival scenes are simply unconvincing. The firemaking setup didn't look particularly efficient, and the wood didn't really look worn or charred as though it were starting to smolder, it just kinda happens. Same for the idea of throwing a fishing spear, which may happen, but I've never heard of that being successful.
  • Hanks going full Boomer-mode with his mental math in a few scenes kinda felt like it had a tone of "yeah they don't teach this stuff in schools anymore, this is how it's done 😔 "
  • The conclusion was drawn out and boring af, just watching him stand idly at a crossroads for like 15 minutes or something. His interactions with his love interest felt uncompelling.
  • Goes for just about any Tom Hanks movie, but it's like the whitest shit I've ever seen. Watching a PMC bossman try and open a coconut and the movie is acting like there's some sort of supreme ingenuity to it.

Idk I'm probably being over the top, so please pile on or tell me to chill out about it or whatever.
