Para ex-banqueiro e fundador do Partido Novo, Tarcísio não tem postura de uma liderança que deseja presidir o país.

"[Tarcísio] colocou o boné enaltecendo a vitória do Trump.

There were 2 forks in the road at the end there.

Fork 1) The people running the institute were being totally evil. But it was to save the world. Oh what a moral conundrum!

King's choice : oh wait no, they were actually wrong about that. They were just being dumb. As explained by the genius. So all the bad stuff they did was for nothing good and the institute was just evil.

Fork 2) The psychic kids mindmelded into a magic hivemind deity. Wow. This is certainly something amazing and new in the world .

King's choice. : oh wait no, that whole thing immediately faded away after the climax.

Why? Maybe he was hoping for a tv series, which requires no big changes and moral simplicity

Three Ukrainian women who were abducted from their homes, subjected to torture, and convicted in Russia as alleged Ukrainian spies told their stories.

Now we know: they came for her at home. They tore the place apart looking for phones — anything that could be “evidence.” At first they kept her and a few others in a pit. Just a hole dug in the ground. When it rained, the pit would flood. There was nothing down there. She spent several months like that. We know a few people who were held with her — they were later returned to Ukraine. They told us my mom was incredibly brave. She kept everyone’s spirits up. They said they were like a family in there — with her at the center of it all.

Down in the basement they sat me on a chair, taped me to it with duct tape, and started asking questions. If I answered, they'd shock me. If I didn’t, they'd shock me as well. If I told the truth and they decided it was a lie, they would give me another jolt of electricity. They asked where I grew up, what my nationality was, how many phones I had, who in the Ukrainian army I’d spoken to. The questioning went on all night and into the next day, until about 5 p.m. Eventually they made me sign some papers. I was still blindfolded, I couldn’t see what I was signing. They only lifted the blindfold just enough for me to see where to put my signature.

Four months later, we found her sister Natalia in the morgue. She was beaten badly, exhausted, her hair turned gray. Her body was in such a condition that she couldn’t be buried in an open coffin. She had simply been tortured to death in a basement. The morgue staff said they just found the body, but the official cause of death was listed as heart failure.

Here’s an evergreen take: There has never been a better time to get off social media.

Social services have evolved even further into becoming sticky traps for doomscrolling and AI-generated slop, and are hitherto unprecedented frontiers for rage bait. Bummed out about all the misinformation and being part of a profit machine that funds one increasingly unhinged billionaire or another? Well, there’s a way out.

Unfortunately, social media companies don’t always make it very easy to rescind their grips on your attention. They bury deletion and deactivation options deep in their sidebars and menus and do everything in their power to keep you engaged and scrolling.

It’s not always easy, but if you’re eager to exorcise the demons of social media from your life.

I get banned everyday for "threatning violence" but I don't remember specifically doing it on this platform like ever.

It's also great that I can no longer see the post which I was banned for.

Up until a disastrous day earlier this month, more than 150 trucks crossed daily over a border bridge between Nepal and China. Known by locals as the Miteri Pul (Friendship Bridge), the Rasuwagadhi crossing served as the main trade route between the two countries, with over $50m of goods passing over it last year alone.

But on the 8 July, floodwaters tore through northern Nepal’s Rasuwa district, sweeping away parts of this critical border highway. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Authority, seven people lost their lives, and 20 were missing, including six Chinese nationals.

The Chinese nationals were working on a 200 megawatt hydro project in the Tirsuli River, which was also damaged by the floods. Initial estimates suggest Nepal has sustained losses of over $100m in the incident as a whole.

Scientists have determined that the cause was an outburst from a glacial lake. According to Jakob Steiner, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Graz (Austria), and Amrit Thapa, a PhD student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the glacial lake had formed in March, approximately 35km upstream from the border inside Chinese territory.

Glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) have become increasingly common in Nepal, driven by rapid warming in the Himalayas. Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reports that temperatures in the Himalayan region have increased by 0.42C per decade between 2008 and 2018 – nearly double the global average.

Nepal lost 24 per cent of its glaciers due to global warming between 1977 and 2010, the most recent data available, contributing to a substantial decline in freshwater reserves in the Himalayas. In the Himalayan region, the number of glacial lakes and their area are rapidly increasing.
