adhd autism
Yeah I know I can just go to the comm but I don't feel like it, trans mega is my safe warm blanket spaceOkay anyway so I know I have ADHD for sure, like not only was it easy to self-diagnose but I got an official diagnosis from a psych so that's like all sorted.
Autism has been way harder to pin down. Like there are some criteria I resonate with like a lot, and there's some where it's the complete opposite. And maybe some a mix?
It doesn't help that ND people I've talked to about it have been 50/50 as well. "Yes you do" "Nah you don't" That's not helpful!
Someone said take the RAADS when you're not on meds or stimulants and then try it again when I'm on them. I thought it was silly but I took the test last night with no meds/stimulants and got a score right on the border, and then I took it again today after my meds kicked in and I got 10 points higher?
Chat does adderall cause autism
Ok but seriously I do understand that ADHD can mask autism criteria so it does make sense that I'd relate that in a mindset where my ADHD stuff is reduced that I'd be able to see more of what's underneath but... it's so much on the edge that I'm still confused. Do I just have like the la croix of autism?
Where's the comprehensive AuDHD test when I need it?
one week we gotta do a trans mega neurodiverse takeover hehehe
FUNNY BRAIN TIME
Right here. Maybe this post will help, maybe not.
Ty
Do the tests and see where you sit. You can also do them at different times to see if there is similar results. I did 3 years research into neurodiversity including adhd and autism. A lot can change day to day that's why it can be hard to nail down and also lots of co-morbidity
Is the first link supposed to be just a user? Anyway, I will enjoy reading the post if and when I do.
Yup. Is kinda a joke, but also ReadFanon makes good posts/comments on neurodiversity.
Cool. :3
AuDHD here, I don't resonate with all autistic experiences but autism is a pretty broad spectrum and can encompass wildly different experiences, including contradictory ones. For example I don't get a lot of sensory overload from loud or busy environments, in fact I actually kind of enjoy them and I think that might be some of the ADHD. However I do get social overload very easily and find myself constantly needing to spend hours alone on personal projects in order to recharge. This is just one example, there's a lot more out there. Hoping for the best for your self-discovery journey.
I'm the same way. Like I would go to metal shows in smaller venues and the lights and on-stage performance and deep bass so loud that I could feel it in my chest and the frantic energy of the crowd and everything together was just an amazing sensory experience. But if ask my autistic partner how they feel, they said that sounds like their worst nightmare. I also maybe get a kind of social overload in groups, like 1 on 1 I'm usually pretty good but the second it's more people I start to tune out and kinda I dunno surf along on the waves of others conversations? And at the time I'm feel like I'm maybe doing okay but then I also just need to avoid people for a while to recharge. Yet I still seek it out even through I'm terrible at participating? I dunno at the same I feel like that's more of an ADHD thing. But I guess it could be both? Too much overlap
Appreciate it
It’s actually pretty common for autistic people to be sensory seekers instead of sensory avoiders or to be a combination of both so liking metal shows like that might actually be an autism thing
I had no idea. I've only known sensory avoiders
I tend to jump to assuming similarity too quickly, but I think I’m the same way. I get just as confused about this stuff whenever I do, I just took a break from pondering it.
You might be interested in the CAT-Q test which is designed to measure masking and camouflaging of autistic traits
Personally my lack of masking makes it hard for me to tell.
Feel this. Yes, it was the correct decision to post here. I don’t know anything about you, but I can talk about myself. I’m undiagnosed, but certain I have ADHD. I too am on the border for autism diagnoses. My conclusion is that I probably dont have autism there’s just a lot in common between them, and my social deficit seems more ADHD than Autistic, along with sensory issues, interests, and so on. I could be wrong or this may not be the case for you. I can elaborate if you like.
Would be nice to have more specialized tests that look at trying to tease apart different forms of neurodiversity.
Pretty certain I'm ADHD (had a doctor try to guilt-trip my mom into putting me on meds as a toddler). I do score pretty well into the autism range on tests like RAADS (forget what score I got last time; probably like 120's?). Decided to take two of the alexithymia tests on embrace autism website because the RAADS-R description mentioned a few of the questions on there really are about alexithymia, not autism and also scored well on those.
