The conversation about "the cartels" has always been dumb, but this just takes it all a step further, painting the image that all crime is committed by members of a single organization that you can actually go to war against.

I predict this is going to be their next abortion issue. They'll promise an invasion of Mexico to get their base riled up but will do nothing. The blowback from invading a sovereign country in the midst of terminal, unmanaged socioeconomic decline could be fatal.

However the next generation of right wingers will believe it at face value and actually try to execute it, just like abortion.

More likely than an invasion is that they'll just start doing drone strikes in northern Mexico. Those weddings and school buses were full of cartel thugs.
