Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.

Old white dudes in pickup trucks, camo hats, Oakleys, etc having anti-American epiphanies is like my favorite genre

[–] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

Tbf quite a lot of them also have these types of epiphanies but go the other way and begin blaming whatever minority that last got their order wrong at a restaurant.

This is the promise of the internet all of us with starry eyes in the early 2000's were hoping would come true

Like I genuinely can't imagine what these people thought China is like. I live in C*nada too and am exposed to the same propaganda he is. This country is the most Sinophobic place on Earth don't get me wrong, the tone about China has been shrill, fever pitch and unrelenting since China arrested a few Canadian removed. But all that shit he just kind of assumed about cost of living and friendliness is all just him filling in the propaganda gaps with his own white supremacy lol.

Americans having their personal Sputnik moment when they see on of these "peasant" holding the hand over a illuminated plate to pay for the flying train tickets.

You know... You might be right. Time for South and Central America Continent countries to build their own respective social media apps.

I've collected a lot of inspiring videos over the weekend and I'm finally uploading them. I'm about half-way done.

Edit: I'll probably wait until morning to post the second half.

Looking forward to the rest; these are all awesome!

The only good video I've seen filmed from someone's truck. Good man.

This made me cry and feel genuine hope.

Americans when they see how advanced (urban) China really is lenin-palace

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Even the rural stuff is quite eye opening, remember a lot of Americans do live in rural communities, and the last time they got an infrastructure upgrade was when Roosevelt built a post office.

Yeah, its less of a spectacle than going to a big shiny city, but paying for snacks from a farmer's stall on a remote mountain trail with a QR code (somehow you're always in 5G range) will probably surprise foreigners too.

我的朋友们都太害怕来中国了。我希望小红书会改变那个。过去上五个月我在中国旅游。这个国家真漂亮,人们很友好,生活方便极了。过来中国。自己看。

After perusing the red note you should peruse the little red book

There is a difference between being fed bullshit versus someone placing bullshit in front of a person while that person then decides to eat it.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 40 points 2 weeks ago

When the government spends billions of dollars attempting to ensure that bullshit is the only option it's also a bit different

You're right, we can't just say people are propagandised and leave it at that. Masses, Elites, and Rebels: The Theory of “Brainwashing” is an evergreen analysis of what propaganda is and why it works so well not despite but because of the outrageous and unsubstantiated claims it makes.

I’ve been watching these videos this whole weekend and crying. My whole life I’ve been trying to tell westerners the truth about China and vice versa and it’s been so fruitless until now
