Some Lego sets are definitely problematically gendered, but complaints about the bricks themselves are probably rage bait.

that's exactly what's happening here i bet

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

sigh but what have the male-female connecting bricks done for the Palestinians?

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The bricks haven't denounced Hamas yet

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

"There's trouble in Lego Gaza! Construct your tunnels to secure the safety of it's people!"

This isn't even a lego thing. This is also the standard for naming things like power sockets and piping iirc.

yes-honey-left actual LGBT rights plz

There's a joke about the notorious M-M cable (aka the suicide cable) that I'm too lazy to make.

M-M in audio is crucial though, hooks my car to my Bluetooth

Low voltage DC male-to-male isn't a problem, though. It's the sparky voltages that will do you in.

We should switch to using 凸/凹 because

  • they're descriptive (convex/concave)
  • their meanings are clear from their form
  • they're fun to say in Japanese: deko(mi) and heko(mi), respectively, and if you stick them together you get the cute dekoboko which means "bumpy" or "uneven".

Hooray the "Master/Slave" "black list/white list" style technical writing drama has finally hit the toy sector.

[–] gramxi@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago

imo lego has non-binary aura

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Hang on. The whole design of the standard Lego brick is that it has holes on one side and nubs on the other. Legos aren't male or female, they're both.

Maybe this article is misunderstanding a critique of the language we use to describe parts fitting together, not the parts themselves.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago

Feds write this crap so they can get people to think all the stupid lies 4chan says about lgbt people are true, don’t they?

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

It's literally just an example of how language reinforces heteronormativity, but of course they wouldn't explain that in simple terms.

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

wouldn't that mean most blocks are intersex or whatever the social version of dual gendered is, because almost all blocks have parts that insert and parts that receive?

I am struggling to entertain the comparisons.

Did you make that board? If so I like what you did with it.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

just the best example I could find, but I used to be quite the lego freak in a past life

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Using electricity is superstraight now.

[–] Pili@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Only thing I know is my male Legos love being pegged.

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

And also doing the pegging, and also doing both at the same time in a thousand-brick orgy

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

I'm sure that's a good representation of the argument made by the museum and not misconstrued in any way.

[–] Hatandwatch@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

Guess I'll just implement some illegal building techniques. Be gay do crime.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

There's a pussy, dicks, and asshole joke in there.

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Sooner or later someone is going to soypoint-1 soypoint-2 "see, being gay isn't natural!" Like they do to some random verse in the Bible. We are rapidly headed towards a stupidity singularity.

[–] Tofu_Ninja@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Each nub still needs to go in a hole. I think they’re looking for some kind of physics defying solution for two holes or nubs to stick together. Maybe one that doesn’t have holes or nubs and is just meant to sit alone.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 29 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

You can also put the edge of a flat between the nubs of another block. There are so many variations beyond hole-to-nub if you just try for a few minutes.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 30 points 3 days ago

The picture needs a "Become Ungovernable" caption.

[–] crime@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago
[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It doesn't even make sense by their own logic, all bricks fit into each other so all of them are intersex lol

[–] Hexboare@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

Some of their weird ones can only be inserted into receiver pieces
