Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.
Rules:
-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --
-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --
-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --
-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --
-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--
-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--
-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --
-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --
Now there needs to be an app called Speed Dial or something that charges a monthly subscription fee to dial 911. You see it provides value because instead of paying $427 per call you just pay $50 a month for the opportunity to call for free.
Putting private companies between you and basic services is not only moral, it's efficient.
This basically already exists. And then they send the wrong ambulance (because the prepaid ones are uncommon... Whoopsie!) and charge you anyway.
oh fuck... you know damn well someone is gonna do it
From the authors of "I can't afford an ambulance" comes the new smash hit "I can't afford 911 to be called"
JFC it's not even the first city in California to do this...other cities have implemented fees ranging from ~$200 to ~$800. "Won't deter people from calling 911" my ass. How about you fund your fucking fire departments instead of giving police billions each year to harass people?
Cause rich people don’t get being broke.
What the fuck? Even if I saw someone get a CEO like Luigi did and for some reason I wanted to call the cops, I'd have to pay 427$?
At least nobody will call 911 when San Jose city officials start getting shot up in our future dystopia
New York Times article in 2040: “City Officials death rate has increased by 200% in the last decade, and no one’s calling 911, is social media to blame?”
Letting cops die will be the zoomers avocado toast
If I'm in San Jose and I see a car accident and I call 911 - they're going to charge me? I did a ctrl-f for "witness" - zero results.
yeah the real question is who gets the charge, and then how the fuck do they plan on collecting it?
In the case of a car accident they want to charge the car insurance company. Get ready to get your rates adjusted.
This article is badly written; i think it's talking about the fire dept having to respond to "medical only" 911 calls.
I have a bit of real world experience with this being misused (lack of social services a whole other convo but read on). My slowly dying, often confused, and always stubborn uncle would routinely fall out of his chair and call 911 because he couldn't get back up. Two or 3 times a week towards the end. Once he called them twice in one day.
This is probably to address that.
Not saying it's justified, in fact it fucking sucks, but this is likely what the article is referencing, not charging people who call 911 for emergency response.
I'm speaking from ignorance but life experience tells me they will attempt to charge someone at the scene
I guess this will make them stupid poors think twice before (checks notes) calling an ambulance or the police in the case of an emergency??
terrible country
With all this talk about the coming American Caesar, we failed to consider who will be the coming American Crassus.
Caesar was trying to uphold the roman system but in a reformed way, very "I hate big coperation, lets split them up into smaller ones" aka StandardOil. The plebs were already eliminated as a political faction at this point. Crassus was the moderate and wanted primarily to bail out the equities in Asia and in general had big finance business connections in the east. So an american crassus would be a older billionaire moderate, run afoul of the american elite, who has big finance ties with europe. So maybe someone like Jeffrey Sachs? He isnt Crassus rich though and not really a politician.
What is the modern day equivalent of drinking molten gold?
antimatter or the History Supreme Yacht which costs around 4.8 billion dollars
Luigi didn't go far enough
depraved
trauma team except you also still pay taxes for it
I think given trauma team uses existing infrastructure you always also did. Also I don't imagine the San Jose EMTs are on trauma team level of professionalism, allthough I do not blame them for it
Waging Poorfare
(like warfare, but specifically aimed at making poor people dead)
California is such a fucking shithole, especially as I'm reading through Palo Alto.
I hate California
bruh
