The protagonists decide that's stupid and declare war on the United States instead, using their powers to spearhead a vanguard that overthrows the government
Things escalate rapidly in the sequel when various world governments find and weaponize their Totemics
Don't want to spoil too much, but Israel gets nuked about halfway through
