Also, if I was hanging someone, I would probably take off their hard hat.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 days ago

And hi visibility jacket

[–] Umechan@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But have you not considered the damage it might do to their jackets? I guess fabric isn't important enough for you people.

It is not uncommon for western "experts" to know jack shit about what they're formally an expert in. They will know just enough to keep the machines running and do the paperwork. If they are experts in a field without that many machines or that much paperwork they can be completely amateurs and nobody will bat an eyelid.

It is not just geopolitically charged fields, like China experts, it is also much less contentious fields without the same pressure to reach politically charged conclusions. Western academia seems to have a profound disdain for learning beyond immediate economic utility. For instance, I recently learned that the leading researcher on Buddhism at a major Danish university doesn't speak Sanskrit, doesn't speak Chinese and doesn't speak Tibetan. They learned a little Japanese once but have long forgotten it. They are brought on mainstream media and treated as an expert.

Literally, I was reading one of the philosophy of ethics professors from Harvard talk about ethics in general and when they got into Marxism and Marxists (as a representative of a form of consequentialist ethics, which it isn't really) and they literally stated something that was specifically the opposite of dialectical materialist ethical theory, of which the majority comes from the Anti-Durhing by Engels, as the Marxist's view of ethics, without actually citing any individual Marxist, or even Marx himself, while all other views had specific nuanced views defined by individual thinkers of the theory. And this person is supposed to be a leading scholar of virtue ethics. Ayn Rand was literally taken more seriously as an academic source

One of the things that initially made me curious to learn actual information about Korea was how people can say whatever blatantly made up bullshit they want to about the country, and other people will just nods their heads and agree.

Me, definitely not a "vegan chef" who is neither vegan nor educated as a chef: side-eye-1 side-eye-2

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

Do you know how to cook food that people want to eat? Do you know how to do it without products of animal origin? Congratulations, you are much more qualified at what you do than these experts.

The equivalent would be to declare that grass-fed beef is vegan and trying to cook a steak in a coffee maker.

Honestly the saddest part of this is people being so detached from industrial labor and construction that they can't even recognize a safety harness in use, when that should be obvious. Of course there's also the utterly invented idea of mass executions and general sinophobia, but these people are cooked in general.

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago

the idea that the ebil cpc workers would hang thwir colleagues in hi vis is sending me

[–] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 29 points 3 days ago

Most Westerners don't realize they can go to China themselves, also the reason none of the countless Chinese people that live in the west talk about the trauma from experiencing these atrocities is because they never happened.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 42 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Fun fact: You only have around 15 minutes hanging in a harness without extra loops for leg support before your blood circulation is cut off and you die

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 50 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I had to get an arteriogram once, and they used the right femoral artery for engress. After they were done, they stuck me on a hospital bed with a weight on the incision, and they said don't move or you'll die. It doesn't matter that you're in a hospital; we won't be able to save you fast enough.

[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago

Jesus christ medical shit is so horrifying and the capacity for my ability to feel horror is just increasing exponentially as I age. I am so afraid for when I will need medical assistance again

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 31 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Femoral arteries aren't to be fucked with. Acute_Engles mentioned you can pass out after just 15 minutes hanging in one of these fall arrestor harnesses, and I fully believe that.

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Is that the one next to the willy? I also had one but they just had a nurse put all their weight on it for like an hour, then put sandbags on top of it for another hour or so. Never want to do that again

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It is, and the glue they used to close the incision made it feel like having a third testicle for a few weeks. It was right at the waistline, so my pants and belt were always pushing on it, which fucking sucked.

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hope you're better! I got mine inserted without any anesthetic since it was a last minute decision, was pinned to the table while they inserted it, worst pain of my life IMP

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

Likewise! It was a tumor and they were trying to see if they could get rid of it medically or if it would require surgery. Ended up needing the surgery. But this was years ago and I'm fine now.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

I remember in a first aid class they wanted to drill into our heads how important it was to stop the bleeding if someone was cut there, we had to take turns kneeling on each other's artery to know exactly where it is. "You'll know if they're doing it right", the teacher said, and he was correct cuz when they did it right it hurt a lot.

The only thing I remember from that class is how tourniquets work.

Me in the safety harness and the anglo press fainting.

[–] Umechan@hexbear.net 42 points 3 days ago

Even putting the sign aside I have to wonder what definition of "mass" includes 4 people out of a population of 1.4 billion.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 32 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah all those hard hats and construction gear clamoring for an execution. Critical thinking is cooked. Absolutely cooked

[–] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

The death row inmates found in violation of PPE regulations will be sent home immediately without pay.

[–] edge@hexbear.net 36 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (5 children)

Obviously the claims are complete bullshit and it doesn't actually matter.

But I feel like they probably could have made it look a little less like a public hanging. Not for any geopolitical sake, but just like "hey doesn't this look kinda like a gallows?" "yeah that's a little morbid, we should change the design".

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 34 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

But the problem is that anyone who can read Chinese knows instantly what this is and even people who can't can discern it readily. Yet China watchers and their credulous followers think everyone is dumber than them and will fall for this shit.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago (3 children)

That's just how fall arrest systems work

That suspension trauma strap is something I never would have known about it it wasn't for this

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah there's a lot of neat shit out there we don't really get to learn about unless we're involved directly in that line of work that necessitates it. Not mentioning decaying health and safety standards in corporations leading to a lack of proper issuing of good personal protection equipment, a lack of proper training on how to utilize it, and a focus on corporate legal liability waver pencil-whipping to ensure stockholder margins are protected from workplace accidents.

Maybe they did it on purpose because they thought it was funny, and it is funny.

[–] buh@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago

What if china intentionally does things that look dystopian out of context just to fuck with westoids? Like a reverse of the trope that everyone there is a paid actor putting on a show of normalcy for the rest of the world

This is even dumber than when they censored a picture of the red wine bottles that were smashed on the floor and pretended it's a mass execution of Uyghurs or whatever lmao.

[–] CarbonScored@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

Front page of Reddit yesterday was a photograph of bunch of bikes left on a road as proof of a massacre in Tiananmen Square, because they look a bit like bodies if you squint.

Cock-milk dungeon levels of propaganda

(OFC it's already been linked earlier in the thread. Classics for a reason)

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 3 days ago

Yeah how dare they do that instead of holding the possibility of homelessness, starving or loss of health-care like the civilized world
