wow! he canceled 8% of the student debt in convoluted, means-tested policies that only benefit 10% of those who were promised debt relief a year ago? what a hero! some of these plans have people continue making payments but it being forgiven in 20-25 years. absolute chefs-kiss of liberal policy.

The situation for kids and families at the border is vastly improved over what it was under Trump

He didn't cancel shit. He had just existing debt forgiveness programs prioritized and pushed for them to process the applications sooner.

All the cancelled debt would've been cancelled regardless of anything Biden did.

wait for real?! this is some wild shit. even more of a demonic neoliberal move than i thought holy shit

As far as I could tell it's all through the same public service loan forgiveness program that's existed for years.

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 23 points 7 months ago

I have to preface this with a fervent Fuck Joe Biden

but

my husband's loans were totally forgiven last fall, years earlier than expected, just on a normal IDR/IBR plan, and (based on payment history) I think mine will probably get the same treatment later this year

We don't have public service jobs, just average capitalist wage-slave bullshit until we started doing our small engine stuff full-time last summer, so Derp Brandon did something for us.

Was it nearly enough? Can I actually afford my house or groceries or medical expenses? No, absolutely not, Joe Bidet hasn't helped me very much. But he did take a few tens of thousands of debt off our back, which I guess deserves acknowledgement.

Tbqh, Trump's elimination of the health insurance mandate helped us a fuckton more. We were getting absolutely fucked on premiums for insurance with deductibles so high we couldn't afford to use it at all.

Trump again proposes ending student loan forgiveness program

but sure, if you need to pretend Trump and Biden are 100% the same you do you.

How many more of these stinking, double-downer sideshows will we have to go through before we can get ourselves straight enough to put together some kind of national election that will give me and the at least 20 million people I tend to agree with a chance to vote FOR something, instead of always being faced with that old familiar choice between the lesser of two evils?

Most of Biden's student debt cancellation is the result of him implementing cancellation policies that are already law. Like cancelling debt for government employees, that was IIRC signed into law by Bush. Trump cancelled some debt as well, he just implemented policies that he was already supposed to anyway.

hmm gonna need a source on that. He proposed $25 billion for student debt in the COVID stimulus paused debt repayments. Also Trump was happy about SCOTUS saying Biden couldnt forgive $400 bilion in debt last year saying “Today, the Supreme Court also ruled that President Biden cannot wipe out hundreds of billions, perhaps trillions of dollars, in student loan debt, which would have been very unfair to the millions and millions of people who paid their debt through hard work and diligence; very unfair,”

Also in 2020 Trump again proposes ending student loan forgiveness program which was the 4th year in a row he proposed it. So yeaaaaaa.

You think Palestinians would be better off with Trump?

Oh for fucks sake shut up

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 21 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Funny Man John Oliver was running big defense for biden on student loans this past week. Not shocked to see libs dragging those talking points out as a result.

[–] bigboopballs@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

fuck that unfunny shitlib

What about my Xi bucks?!

[–] Zuzak@hexbear.net 14 points 7 months ago

I'm not a liberal

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 13 points 7 months ago

Biden still owes me 12000 dollars.

[–] harfee@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Liberals keep doing this. They still insist on touting Biden's "accomplishment" of getting railroad workers a few days off per year (a fraction of what they wanted) (eight months later) (after denying their legal right to strike).

Since Biden has no actual accomplishments, they have no choice but to spin his failures.

[–] sir_this_is_a_wendys@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago

My friend was trying to defend Biden and tell me I have to vote for him. I kept smacking down his talking points, he even agreed with me on all of them but then would default back to 'but things could get worse'. Their brains are seriously fucked.

A guy owns 100% of 100 peoples debt and has the power to just... poof it out of existence with some scribbles on a piece of paper.

In an act of generosity, the guy randomly chooses 10 of those 100 and poofs all or part of their debt away.

Awesome... now do that, 10 more times.

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 3 points 7 months ago

This might come as a surprise, but we are well aware trump bad. We see democrats as a more immediate threat because they do nothing but enable the big, bad boogyman that they pretend to fight.

If this was the most important vote of our lifetime (again) the Democrats should really start acting like it

[–] Great_Leader_Is_Dead@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago

The situation for kids and families at the border is vastly improved over what it was under Trump

This is the third time I've encountered Lib saying this but none of them ever have a fucking source, they seem to just assume it's true cuz... vibes.

[–] ashinadash@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Oh yeah I was full of shit :) that absolute loser deserved every bit of PPB they got.

I figured, when you're just denying or avoiding discussing the genocide that Biden is enabling and endorsing, you aren't worth anyone's time.

[–] MineDayOff@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

Libs gonna lib

My go to now is 'until you can directly vote for president here you can shut up about saving democracy'
