Not gonna lie, if I was Snowden I would regret throwing my life away for this country of idiots.

[-] GaveUp@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

He's for sure living better on that Putin stipend than his ClA/NSA paycheck lol

if the Russians actually trust him on any high level like that I think it would be stupid as hell

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

I don't think he's trusted in any meaningful way. It's just good good to have him around for propaganda purposes, i assume

[-] peeonyou@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

yeah.. he still made the right choice ultimately

[-] SSJMarx@lemm.ee 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

His conscience is probably cleaner, but no way is he making more money or living more comfortably than a national security contractor with a decade or more experience.

[-] GaveUp@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You are way overestimating how much your shitty government pays its own employees

He was probably making 90-140k with good benefits and a pension? His healthcare insurance deductible was probably still 5-10k lol

That money in USA before he cashes his pension is a pretty average life in other developed countries because of how shittier everything is here

It wouldn't take much money for Russia to beat that standard of living

Source: Max pay for stem roles at nsa is 180k since 2023. In his day, it was probably closer to 150k http://federalnewsnetwork.com/pay/2023/08/pentagon-approves-higher-cyber-pay-for-nsa-other-defense-intelligence-agencies/?readmore=1

Cathie founded ARK to focus solely on disruptive innovation while adding new dimensions to research

This doesn't actually mean a goddamn thing

[-] john@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

She was only really lucky once with Tesla. Cathie wood has lost billions of her clients' money when they invested with her. Cathie is not a good money manager; she's underperforming the S&P 500 index.

The worst part is having Brand get too high, and he starts waxing poetic about some dumb esoteric shit and nobody can say anything because he's too passionate to interrupt so you just kinda sit there looking at each other, until you lock eyes with Trump, who can also astrally project, and then you realise how good things were before Trump couldn't interrupt your voyage into the cosmos with his endless tirades about how good the Milky Way was before it was invaded by illegal aliens from a different galaxy.

Also Snowden does this weird thing where he pretends he isn't high, I dont know what his deal is.

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

Lol. I'm sure Snowden is definitely going to return to America for Bitcon of all things.

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure Russia has streaming technology. Pretty sure.

[-] brainw0rms@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

I thought this had to be fake, but fuck me, it's real. Death to America.

However, despite once calling Bitcoin a “scam” in a 2021 interview, the Republican nominee for president will be speaking on Saturday and is expected to deliver a supportive speech.

anakin-padme-1 Bitcoin just seems like a scam.

You won't promote and support Bitcoin, then? anakin-padme-2

anakin-padme-3 I will be giving a historic speech at Bitcoin 2024 supporting it.

So you no longer think it's a scam? anakin-padme-2

anakin-padme-3 mystery-emote mystery-emote mystery-emote anakin-padme-4

These guys who are going all basically think Bitcoin is money, right.

Imagine the brain you gotta have to go to Money-Con.

[-] HakFoo@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 1 month ago

Actually, money-con could be sort of cool. Coins and currency are a very public art form, with deep historical connections, and coin collectors tend to be fairly chill for a group that skews as old rich white guys, eager to share their knowledge and obscure interests.

Their big conventions (i. e. the annual American Numismatic Association shows) will often have neat exhibits (deep dives with explanations into a specific weird currency, or courses in counterfeit detection and grading) or you can gawk at a single coin worth more than any house in your neighbourhood.

In contrast... Bitcoin is all the ugliness and malice of money without either the utility or the art. This would manage to be an event you left stupider than when you arrived.

cap-think How to pay coup actors outside of BRICS and SWIFT systems....

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Money con unfortunately exists and I have unfortunately gone for work and it is exactly what you would think except both worse and also more mundane

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

a-little-trolling Trump pre pardons Snowden live.

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Trump points at his temple. "Official act. I don't even gotta say 'official act' because if I think it's an official act - it's an official act. But it's good to say 'official act' because..." He goes on another two minutes and Snowden has a sort of smile formed on his face as if he's about to laugh but he doesn't laugh. He looks like a broken Disney animatronic where the eyes blink but the facial muscles are fubar and the robot makes very small but noticeably uncanny valley movements.

[-] emizeko@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Edward no!

EDIT: wait a second, former CIA officer? I knew NSA contractor but hadn't heard this

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It’s essentially the same thing lol. I think he just changed employers but retained the same responsibilities more or less. I don’t think I’ve heard Snowden talk about crytpo in terms of business. Usually he talks about the privacy aspects which is disappointing as a supporter because he has no choice but to show up to these scam events if he wants anyone to hear what he says

[-] dannoffs@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Teaching chuds opsec is bad actually.

[-] heatenconsumerist@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

Genuinely an unbelievable group of people to headline an event for the world's largest ponzi of all time.

100% not on my BINGO card

[-] Procapra@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

I don't really get Snowden. Seems like a very odd choice of guest.

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

I think he will pretty much show up to any event if you pay him

[-] princeofsin@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Please pump my bag so i can get out of USA

[-] utopologist@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Lol, Russell Brand. Remember when Mark Fisher's "Exiting the Vampire Castle" used Brand as an example of a leftist unfairly targeted by the left?

[-] TomBombadil@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I'm not ready

And unfortunately I'm going. What's the funniest thing I can do while I'm there?

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

[-] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Engage Donald Trump in a spirited debate.

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Gonna blow his mind wowee

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

"I'm the greatest president in the Make America Great MAGA history of all American history."

And the people on stage with him reply.

"Yes, you are."

"Strong and powerful. There isn't even a close second!"

"I agree 100%."

"Yes. We all envy and adore you."

"You shine brighter than the Sun. You are second only to God and it's only by a little bit..."

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

And unfortunately I'm going.

Why?

[-] TomBombadil@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

My mother is big into Bitcoin... like before any other crypto existed. bought it when it was like $1. She asked me to come if she'd pay for everything. So not gonna say no to a week of free food. Also when I agreed Edward Snowden was the top of the speaker list and was like okkkk not so bad.

Everytime I look it's gotten worse. Shouldn't be surprised.

[-] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Several of the other speakers have brain worms. Can you guess which?

[-] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

After Bukele-Trump split? Nooo

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)
[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Are these people actually going or is this cryptobros saying famous people are coming but aren't.

[-] SSJMarx@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest - though it also wouldn't surprise me if this whole thing is a top to bottom scam, and we get Trump doing his bit next to the dashcon ball pit.

[-] GaveUp@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

I hate that I know all these people to a relatively significant degree

@Hewaoijsdb@hexbear.net prime examples of the compatible left in the bottom left here lmfao
