However, I don’t think the problem is politics in movies, rather “in your face” politics in movies. As another commenter pointed out, even Godzilla had political undertones. The difference is it was more nuanced. It found a way to share a message without being preachy or condescending.
Godzilla only had political undertones and not "in your face" politics?
The film literally about the threat of nuclear weapons rooted in the trauma the atomic bombs brought?
It only has undertones?
No, see, if I, with my very big brain, don't immediately notice the themes of the film, they're subtle undertones. What's media literacy, some kind of communist plot?
Smh they made godzilla woke 😒
If a consumer doesn't notice the message the message doesn't exist.
Shin Godzilla was all about the governments slow reaction to Fukushima and it was awesome for it.
The Godzilla reboot in 2014 sucked ass and was just a giant commercial for the USA military, much like the war of the worlds reboot with Tom Cruise.
2 hours of upset white people pointing at devastation and then five minutes of Godzilla fighting some giant bugs, but the white people solving the real problem anyway
I hated it.
The ultimate middle finger it threw at the audience that many seemed to miss was when the first big kaiju fight was about to break out after two long tedious "father figure has manpain" segments and then the camera jumps away from that so we can check up on the latest "father figure that has manpain" segment.

Never heard this take and haven't seen the movie in many years, can you elaborate?
Lots of smoke up the ass blowing about the troops. The hero of the movie is a troop. Lots of troop scenes.
For me, it was Tom Cruse walking over over dying people trying to escape alien attack, screaming "SEAAAAAAAAAAN?!" over and over again for most of the run time.
