Nah it's like the way flags are backwards on military uniforms.

Tha is actually part of the flag code. It is always supposed to face a specific way so when it's displayed on a uniform it will have a different direction based on which side it is on. Obviously such is not possible on a flag pole, thus the side with the stars is always attached to the pole.
